Inside Line Promotions – PEORIA, Ariz. (March 4, 2020) – Jordon Mallett kicked off his sophomore campaign with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour by picking up two top-15 finishes at Canyon Speedway Park last weekend.

“We put together some new cars this offseason and I feel like we came out the box with a lot of speed and that’s encouraging,” he said. “We tinkered on the car both nights and I think we got results we can be proud of.”

Friday night’s series opener placed Mallett in the eighth starting position of a heat race and he passed three cars to finish fifth. He followed that up by recording a third-place outing in a qualifier. After narrowly missing out on locking into the feature, Mallett won a B Main from the pole position to earn the 17th starting spot in the main event.

Mallett fell backward early in the feature before the track came to his liking. He steadily moved forward to finish three spots better than his starting position in 14th.

“We didn’t have the best pill draw, but we clawed our way into the feature and made the best of things,” he said. “I dug myself into a bit of a hole early in the feature, but once the track took rubber I felt more comfortable in the car and we moved forward to salvage a good night.”

Saturday night’s weekend finale started with a heat race win from the pole position followed by a sixth-place finish in a qualifier. Mallett ended third in a B Main to lock into the main event. Using lessons learned from Friday night’s feature, Mallett made adjustments to his car and charged forward nine positions to finish 12th.

“I changed a few things on the car and we had it moving forward from the drop of the green flag on Saturday,” he said. “The first races of the year are always a bit of a test session so to be learning this early on the year and to move forward was a great feeling.”

Mallett is looking to continue the early season momentum on the ASCS National Tour this weekend at a trio of California tracks. The series visits Merced Speedway in Merced on Friday, Placerville Speedway in Placerville on Saturday and Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma on Sunday.

The Greenbrier, Ark., native noted that he prefers the smaller tracks on the schedule and is looking forward to racing at a few tracks for the first time.

“Some of these tracks are what I deem as bucket list tracks and I’m really excited to get out on some of these little tracks and flex our muscles a bit,” he said. “They have some great drivers and teams out in California, but we race weekly with some of the best in the country as well on the ASCS National Tour. I feel great about our chances and we’ll focus on doing our best and hopefully we’ll come out of there with some more solid finishes.”
