The first of two nights of racing over the Labor Day Weekend took place on Saturday at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) with 92 race teams on hand. There were 20 Pure Stocks, 21 Midwest Mods, 16 Cash Money Late Models, 17 B-Mods, and 18 Super Stocks competing throughout the night.

All total, drivers raced their way into the night’s main events through 15 heat races and 1 pole dash sort out the line-ups for the five main events. At the end of the night’s action, feature race winners included

Jace Parmley and Matt Menzie took front-row starting honors for the night’s 30-lap Cash $ Late Model Series main event and the pair ran side-by-side in a close battle through the opening laps. Menzie eventually snagged the lead over Parmley, Kaeden Cornell and ZD Keeper. As the leaders set a blistering pace through the halfway marker, Parmley, a previous CMS winner moved in to challenge Menzie at the front. Parmley hounded Menzie for several laps and eventually came away with the lead. By lap 17, the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic as Parmely continued leading Menzie, Cornell, and Brandon Baldridge. For the final 10 laps, Parmley guided his machine through lapped cars, maintaining his lead over Menzie. Ultimately, the race went caution free and was another CMS thriller for the Cash $ Late Model Series. Parmley came out on top of the race with Menzie second, Baldridge advanced to third with Cornell, tenth-starting Dustin Atkinson, and Sawyer Crigler completing the top six. For their caution-free race, promoter Earl Walls bought a round for the field.

At the beginning of the night, Dave Meyer held a narrow five-point lead over James Nighswonger, to sort out the season championship for the Super Stocks. However, it was Ted Welschmeyer and Blaine Ewing who led the field to green for the 20-lap main event. Ewing took the early lead with Welschmeyer, Clayton Campbell, Dave Meyer, and Nighswonger not far behind. A caution for debris slowed the race early on with Ewing out front, shortly after the debris caution, Campbell spun from contention while running third to draw a second caution period. For the lap 11 restart, Ewing led Meyer, Nighswonger, Marc Carter, and Welschmeyer. After this restart, the race took on a whole new story as Nighswonger moved forward on the high side, one of the few drivers to do so, and challenged Ewing for the lead, only to have his charge slowed by a lap-15 caution. The final five laps were intense as new leader Nighswonger worked to hang onto the lead over Ewing and Meyer. With the win and the season championship on the line, Ewing and Meyer turned up the pressure over the final three circuits. As the lead trio took the white flag, it was anyone’s guess what the outcome would be. Nighswonger’s car looked like it was losing some grip off the turns, which allowed Ewing and Meyer to close in, and off the final turn on the final lap, the trio all went for the same territory, leading to Nighswonger’s car hitting the wall on the high side with the tail end coming off the ground as the sparks flew. In the end, Nighswonger barely hung on for the victory and narrowly captured the championship over Meyer by four points. Ewing settled for second with Meyer third, Welschmeyer fourth, Carter fifth and David Hendrix sixth. NAPA Auto Parts, L&L Termite and Pest Control, Shark Chassis, and Pop-Up North 13 Sell Market added extra money to the Super Stock purse for the evening and will also add the same amount for Sunday’s main event.

Tim Karrick and Derek Watson earned top starting honors for the 20-lap B-Mod main event with Watson taking the early race lead over Karrick, Brad Smith, and Chad Clancy. The field was slowed on lap two for an early race caution with Watson over Karrick Smith, Chad and Stephen Clancy for the restart. By lap seven, Watson began pulling away ever so slightly over Karrick in second as Chad Clancy moved into the third position. After the early race cautions, Watson again held the top spot over Karrick and Chad Clancy with Smith, Dawson David and Sturgis Streeter inside the top six. Karrick and Chad Clancy stayed close on the low to middle line as Smith was the lone ranger trying the top by lap 16. Stephen Clancy’s strong early run came to an end on lap 19 as Watson threaded his way through lapped machines on his way to a first-ever CMS victory. Chad Clancy came away in second in a close battle with Smith and Karrick. Smith edged Karrick for third with Karrick settling for fourth. Dawson David was fifth with Sturgis Streeter completing the top six.

Devin Wetzel and Logan Roark took the front row starting positions for the 20-lap Midwest Mods main event with Roark grabbing the early lead. After a quick yellow at the start of the race Roark held the lead until a lap-two melee, involving 10 cars reset the field. As drivers worked to find a race rhythm, the restarts went to single-file in hopes it would help the drivers achieve some green-flag race laps. The decision worked as the field settled down with Roark leading over Wetzel, Brian Meyer, Matt Brookshire, and Dustin Dennison, who rebounded from the earlier caution period. Austin Smith spun off turn four to draw a late caution and once the field went back to green, Roark built up a half straightaway lead and eventually drove to his tenth victory of the season and the track championship. Wetzel ran a strong and consistent second with Meyer third. David Wood rebounded nicely to come away fourth with Dennison finishing strongly in fifth and Brookshire in sixth.

Bobby Russell wrapped up the track championship for the 2024 season and started alongside David Doelz for the 20-lap Pure Stock main event. Russell shot out to an early race lead with Jonathan Evans and Doelz in tow. Unfortunately, the caution flew on several occasions throughout the race, which ultimately was cut from the original 20-lap distance to 15. Problems began at the start with a re-do at the drop of the green flag. Russell took the lead with Jonathan Evans in second and David Doelz third. Lap two and lap four both saw the caution flag fly with Russell maintaining his lead over Evans, Doelz, and Blaine Nolker. Just past halfway, Nolker spun from the top five as Russell and Evans continued to lead the way. A final restart took place on lap 13 as the race exceeded the time limit and ended with a green, white, and checkered-flag finish. Russell once again took the checkers, for his tenth victory of the season. Evans was consistent all night and came away the runner-up with Doelz third, Bobby Brown fourth, Jaren Powrie fifth and sixteenth-starting Devin Baker finishing six.

On Sunday, September 1st, racing resumes with a $2,000-to-win B-Mod 30-lap main event. Joining in on the race card will be Super Stocks, once again competing for $750 to win, plus added start purse money. Midwest Mods and Pure Stocks return for another night of action as well along with guest class POWRi Late Models. There is no track registration fees or entry fees on Sunday for classes except for B-mods as shown below.

On Sunday, B-Mod drivers have an entry fee of $75 entry fee for track-registered B-Mod drivers, there is a $90 entry for non-track-registered drivers. All entries cover pit pass for the driver and event entry. The B-Mod special-event payout is as follows: 1) $2000, 2) $1000, 3) $900, 4) $700, 5) $600, 6) $500, 7) $450, 8) $400, 9) $350, 10) $300, 11) $250, 12) $225, 13) $200, 14) $200, 15) $200, 16) $200, 17) $200, 18) $200, 19) $200, 20) $200, 21) $200, 22) $200, 23) $200, 24) $200.

Sunday Special Event Admission Information: $20 Adult Gen Adm - Seniors 65 to 74 $15, $6 Kids Ages 6 to 12 with Kids 5 and Under Free. FREE: Seniors 75 and Up - Confined to Wheelchair. All Pit Passes are $40 regardless of age. Weekend Timeline: Pit gates open at 4:30, Grandstands at 5, Driver Pill Draw Cutoff 6:15 (No passing points awarded if late), Pit Meeting 6:30, Hot Laps at 7, racing to follow at approximately 7:30.
