NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50 Notebook: Richards comes to Deer Creek after $30,000 victory
Rochester Post Bulletin:Â (Photo courtesy of Mike Roth Photography)Â Josh Richards' NASCAR dreams may not be over, but they've been put on hold while the 25-year-old has returned to his dominant form on dirt tracks.
The young gun from Shinnston, W.Va., captured World of Outlaws Late Model Series championships in 2009 and 2010, and was the series runner-up in 2011 by just 14 points to veteran Rick Eckert.
Richards raced in just 13 WoO events last season, though, putting his dirt Late Model career on the back burner while he pursued his NASCAR dreams, racing in a handful of Nationwide Series events.
He returned to his No. 1 Late Model in mid-August of last season and ran in the last seven Outlaws events of the season. He finished 17th in the points standings.
Richards' focus in 2013 has been on the Outlaws tour and capturing another points championship. Just more than halfway through the season, he hasn't locked up a third championship, but he's in prime position to do so.
