DIS: Battle of the Bay 2022

From the Battle of the Bay Staff
(Pulaski, PA)...In just a matter of days, the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Late Model Series presented by Born2Run Lubricants fourth annual "Battle of the Bay" Speedweek will get underway, and for the first time will be presented by 3C Graphix of Meadville, Pa. The four-race kickoff to the 2022 Flynn's Tire Touring Series season will take place April 13-16 at Delaware International, Georgetown, Potomac, and Winchester Speedways. The 2022 Tour point fund has increased once again to $51,400 with a record $15,000 going to the champion!

The Speedweek will get underway once again at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar on Wednesday night (April 13) followed up by just 20 miles up the road to Georgetown Speedway, also in the First State, on Thursday night.  Action shifts southwest to Potomac Speedway in southern Maryland on Friday night before heading north into Virginia for the finale at Winchester Speedway on Saturday night. In addition to each event paying $3,000 to-win, there will also be a $3,000 point fund for the top 10 drivers in cumulative points with $1,000 going to the champion.

"We are looking to forward to kicking off our season with the 'Battle of the Bay' Speedweek," expressed RUSH Director Vicki Emig. "This has become one of the most anticipated swings in Crate Late Model racing. We have to thank promoters Mark Cathell, Brett Deyo, Denise Hollidge, and Greg Gunter for continuing to give racers the ability to race four straight nights in the Mid-Atlantic region as well as 3C Graphix for presenting the 'Battle of the Bay'. Racers from all over the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Ontario, Canada are anxiously ready to get the season started in a big way."

Over the three-year "Battle of the Bay" history, 10 events have been completed and car counts have ranged between 40-53 with an average of over 45 cars per event! Kyle Hardy, who swept last year's three events, along with Max Blair and Logan Roberson each have three "Battle of the Bay" wins, while Ross Robinson has a single victory. There has yet to be a repeat "Battle of the Bay" Champion as Roberson won in 2018, Blair in 2019, and Hardy in 2021. Outside of the COVID-19 pandemic cancelling the 2020 "Battle of the Bay", only two other events have been cancelled with rain outs at Potomac in 2019 and Delaware in 2021.

Past Delaware RUSH Tour winners: Max Blair (2018 & 2019). Past Georgetown RUSH Tour winners: Ross Robinson (2018), Max Blair (2019), and Kyle Hardy (2021). Past Potomac RUSH Tour winners: Rick Singleton (2014), Walker Arthur (2015), Logan Roberson (2018), and Kyle Hardy (2021). Past Winchester RUSH Tour winners: Rick Singleton (2014), Walker Arthur (2015), Allen Brannon (2015), Logan Roberson (2018 & 2019), and Kyle Hardy (2021).

One year after more than doubling from the pre-pandemic Flynn's Touring Series point fund, the 2022 season will see another 25% increase with a whopping $51,400 in potential payoff for the top 20 point earners! The 2022 Flynn's Tire Tour Champion will receive a record $15,000- the highest of any Chevrolet Performance Crate Engine Series in the country. Each of the top 10 positions have been increased with $7,500 for second, $5,000 for third on down to $1,500 for 10th place! The minimum Tour event payoff has increased from $2,000 to-win to $3,000 to-win with each position seeing an increase.

In 2021, Hardy ended Jeremy Wonderling's run of three straight Flynn's Tire Tour Championships by earning the $12,000 title in addition to the $1,000 "Battle of the Bay" Championship, and $5,000 National Weekly Series Championship. After slipping to third in 2021 points, Wonderling will look to get back on top in 2022. Joe Martin is coming off a tremendous season finishing second in points with one win and led the Tour with five FK Rod Ends fast time awards. Michael Duritsky, Jr. finished fourth in points and will look to get over the hump for his first career Tour win. The Masontown, Pa. driver has come out of the gates strong in 2022 winning Weekly Series events at Georgetown and Tyler County Speedways already this season.

3C Graphix founder, Matt Latta, has committed to following the entire Flynn's Tire Touring Series for the first time. This season will be the 12th for Latta in the division as he owns one career RUSH Tour win at Sharon Speedway in 2016. The Conneaut Lake, Pa. driver won a pair of features at his home track, Raceway 7, in 2021. Latta also won two features and the track championship at Raceway 7 in 2020 and finished in a tie for 10th in the National Weekly Series points. In 2019, Latta won six features at Raceway 7 and tied for sixth in the National Weekly Series standings.
