Summit American Modified Series
Lee Wins Finale, Shaw Takes Series Championship
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Sept 23, 2021) – The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series wrapped up the 2021 season on Saturday night at Florence Speedway. Not only was a hefty $2,000 payday on the line but also the crowing of the 2021 champion was set to take place.
34 cars signed in and looked to lay down the quickest lap in Allstar Performance qualifying. Adam Stricker was the overall quickest at 17.696 seconds from Group A. Victor Lee of Danville, KY was quickest in Group B at 17.943 seconds. Qualifying set the lineups for four heat races.
In Hypercoils Heat Race #1 Brandon Green picked up the heat race win over fast qualifier Adam Stricker. Kyle Schornick and David Spille took the other two transfer spots into the night’s feature event.
It was William Harger who came home with the win in Willy’s Carb & Dyno Heat Race #2. Brian Shaw, Jason Bilyeu, and Larry Pickelheimer also came home in the top four.
The “Lincoln Leadfoot” Victor Lee won Fast Shafts Heat Race #3. Bryan Barber finished second and moved on to the main event. The final transfer cars were Richard Gibson and Jeremy Rayburn.
In Heat #4 presented by Maxima Oil veteran driver Rick Corbin got the win. Teegan Embrey got second. Pete Holt and Steve Clemmons grabbed the final transfer spots in heat race action.
It took two VP Racing Fuel B-Mains to set the rest of the field. Corey Skipton and Scotty Kincaid transferred from B-Main #1. Joe Smith and Chris Smith survived to move on from B-Main #2.
The thirty lap $2,000 to win event was cut to twenty laps after a nearly three-hour rain delay slowed the start of the 2021 season finale. The final event started off with Brandon Green taking the lead down into turn one. But Green slid up the racing surface and Victor Lee was able to use the crossover move to take the lead down the back straight away. Victor Lee never looked back and held off the field on a couple of restarts to pick up the $2,000 payday. Green would come home in the runner up spot. Series points leader Brain Shaw improved from the seventh starting spot to finish out the podium. William Harger and Rock Corbin rounded out the top five.
The SPEC Racing Engines Hard Charger of the night was Chris Smith who gained seven positions in the feature event.
With his third-place finish Brian Shaw was able to wrap up his 2021 Summit Racing American Modified Series title. With perfect attendance and consistent finishes Brian was able to capture the title he had been so close to winning in years past. Brain gave a lot of credit to sponsors Crosley and Ted Browns Quality Paint & Auto Body for their support.
This put the cap on the 2021 race season for the American Modified Series. Series officials are excited and already in the planning stages for 2022. The series wants to thank all the drivers, crews, fans, sponsors, and racetracks for helping make the 2021 season a success.
