Night 1 of the North/South 100

This week finds the BAR31 Team rolling into Florence Speedway in Walton, Kentucky for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series crown jewel event, the North/South 100. The boys were not alone. 61 late models were signed in Thursday night. With so many cars in attendance, the field would not only be broken up into Groups A and B, but further divided into groups A1, A2, B1 and B2.

Driver Kye Blight started the night by qualifying the 31AUS Rocket XR1 in 2nd place in group B1 behind only Hudson O’Neal. This would start him on the pole of the 6th heat race along with Lucas Oil champions, Earl Pearson, Jr., and Tim McCreadie. Kye would end up in 3rd place after the 8-lap heat race, good enough to get him into the Group B Feature.

The Group B Feature had Earl Pearson on the Pole with Brandon Overton outside of him. Blight started inside row 6. The first 11 laps went caution free and Kye fell as low as 19th position. Several cautions for spins and flat tires plagued the race, but in the end, Kye worked his way back up to take the checkered flag in 14th position.

Reflecting on the night, Kye said, “I was so happy with our speed early. We just need to do a better job of adjusting our car for the feature race, and we are going to have a lot of fun putting on a show.”

Congratulations to Thursday night’s feature winners, Bobby Pierce and Mike Marlar.
