Freeman Powers to First Two Heat Race Victories of the Season

Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (June 9, 2014) – Cody Freeman registered his first two heat race wins of the season during a successful weekend in Texas.

“To say I’m excited about this past weekend would be an understatement,” he said.

Freeman opened the weekend last Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas, where he started on the pole of his micro sprint heat race.

“We gave up a position on the first lap, but regained the lead halfway through and finished it off to pick up our first heat race win of the year,” he said. “I was pretty fired up to say the least.”

That started Freeman on the pole of the main event.

“The outside row got a tremendous start, which put me in third place going into turn one,” he said. “A caution just past halfway bunched everybody back up. The car in second gave me just a little bit of room on the bottom coming out of turn two and I got a great run to take the position.”

Freeman held on to the runner-up result, which was his seventh podium finish of the year.

“We improved drastically over last week at Mountain Creek Speedway so we’re very happy with a second-place result and our first heat win,” he said.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Gator Motorplex, where Freeman led all eight laps of his heat race from the pole position to score his second straight heat victory.

“We had four really competitive cars in the heat race,” he said. “We knew it’d be a challenge.”

That started Freeman on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“It was a real concern for us because the track was dry slick,” he said. “To call it one lane is giving it credit. We knew the only place we stood a chance was on the bottom. On the start the car didn’t launch or get a good grip.”

Freeman fell to third place entering turn one on the opening lap. Approximately four laps into the race Freeman missed his mark on the bottom and spun up the track. He restarted at the back and rallied to finish sixth.

The team is taking this weekend off before venturing to Oklahoma for a tripleheader the following week.

“We’re going to use this weekend to do some preventative maintenance,” he said. “I’m very excited about the next week of racing.”

On Thursday, June 19, Freeman will race at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. The following night he will make his debut at Outlaw Motorsports Park in Wainwright, Okla., before ending the weekend on Saturday, June 21, with his first career race at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.
