Postponed: Deron Rust Memorial Moved to Thursday, June 27

Written by Chris Moore

GEORGETOWN, DE – Postponed.

The ‘Deron Rust Memorial’ at Georgetown Speedway has been postponed to the Thursday, June 27 program.

There will be no racing at the Sussex County oval on Friday, June 14.

“Deron Rust was a big supporter of Georgetown Speedway,” speedway promoter Brett Deyo said. “We want his event to be what he deserves because he was a great man.

“A Thursday night will give more guys a chance to come down,” he continued.

“It’s no secret that coming down here on a Friday in the summertime isn’t easy for anybody.”

The Millman’s NAPA Modifieds will run for a $3,960 payday in their 33-lap affair, paying homage to the No. 396 Rust’s racecars dawned in his racing days.

Further details on the Thursday night thunder program will be available in the coming days.

For the June 27 event, pit gates will open at 4 p.m. with the grandstands unlocking at 5 p.m.

A later starting time will be announced.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
