Allen Wins Whitworth Memorial Event

Humboldt Speedway- It’s a fact that John Allen has more laps around the Humboldt Speedway than his competitors. Allen used that experience and pocketed a cool $1500 as he topped the B Modified field in winning the Whitworth Memorial Special sponsored by Ray’s Metal Depot. Allen used the high line to sail past pole sitter Kris Jackson on lap number two and lead the remaining 28 laps for the win. Jackson, driving hard to catch the leader Allen, spun with 6 laps left as both leaders wove their way through lapped traffic. Allen then had to fend off Thayer’s Shane Collins and Riley Whitworth on two restarts to secure the victory. Whitworth dove past Collins for second, Kenton Allen and Brian McGowen rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Kenton Allen, Whitworth, Collins and Jackson.
In NASCAR Whelen All-American Modifieds, Mitch Keeter continued his winning ways, leading every lap on his way to his seventh modified victory at Humboldt Speedway. Cody Schniepp and Paden Phillips dueled for the second position for the majority of the race with Schniepp garnering second and Phillips third. Dennis Bishop and Kevin Newell completed the top five. Padeb Phillips picked up the Heat Race win.
The Street Stock division saw a new winner as Savonburg’s Ethan Lamon’s took advantage for his father mechanical issues for the win. Lamon’s had to hold off Rusty Etherton in the races latter stages for the victory. Shane Cook, Shawn Hendron and Ray Roberts rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Ethan Lamons and Etherton.
The Factory Stock division feature ended with Chanute’s Bryce Weldon picking up the win. An accident involving many of the front runners occurred as Weldon took the white flag. Track officials determined the finishing order from that point. Second went to last years track Champion Derek Wilson and Owasso, Oklahoma’s Tray Roberts in third. Heat race victories went to Weldon and Jason Thurman.
Some things change, some things don’t. St. Joseph driver John Willard picked up his seventh win in the Sport Compact division. Willard outdistanced Barry Luthi and Eric Ikehorn for his win. Willard also secured the Heat race win.
Racing returns for regular NASCAR Whelens All-American series action next Friday, June 2nd.
Along with the action will be the annual Kid’s Bike Races which will take place during intermission. We ask that all participants please park their bikes north of the Concession area during the races. Participants will be divided into three age categories.
