Brian Brown – McCool Runnings!

(Bill W) September 12, 2012 – Brian Brown dominated with the ASCS-Midwest series and their visit to Junction Motor Speedway near McCool Junction, Nebraska on Saturday night. It was his eighth career win at the 3/8-mile oval. A sixth placed finish in the Nebraska Cup at Eagle Raceway capped off the weekend. The Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team heads to two dates with the World of Outlaws this Friday and Saturday night.

After a rainout spoiled an opportunity to race in his hometown of Grain Valley, on Friday, Saturday started with a heat race win at McCool. “We have been as good as we ever have, really since the Nationals,” says Brian. “We were able to go from sixth to first in the heat. The car was really good.”

The redraw saw the worst possible scenario, as Brian drew an eight for a starting spot outside row four in the feature. “The draw bit us again, but we got a good start and we were able to get to third really quick,” he says. “We were able to get by Jason Danley for second there on the third lap.”

Brian zeroed in on the leader, Don Droud Jr. “Don was setting a pretty good pace,” he says. “We got to traffic, and we were able to get by him. From then on we set sail. The race went 25 laps non-stop.”

He would not repeat history after last week’s feature at Dodge City, where Brian felt he gave one away. “After last week, I felt I had the lead and cruised a little bit,” he says. “I didn’t feel I was driving as hard as I should have. We talked this week in the shop, and we’re going to put it on kill the rest of the year. We were able to win by a half lap Saturday doing that.”

Sunday’s Nebraska Cup at Eagle Raceway saw Brian run second in his heat after starting fourth. “We had a tough heat with Ricky Stenhouse on the pole and Jack Dover on the outside,” he says. “We were able to get to second, and that gave us enough points to get in the redraw. My buddy Jim Harris drew us a seven, so he didn’t do much better than we had been doing.”

Brian would struggle in the feature, maintaining his running position most of the way. “We just missed it again a little bit,” he says. “To be honest, Eagle hasn’t been that good to us. I’m not that great there to be honest. I haven’t been able to get the balance there yet that I need to.”

He would checker sixth. “The car was too free,” says Brian. “We just weren’t able to maneuver like those other guys and ended up sixth. We weren’t good at all, and when you run sixth like that and are disappointed, you’re having a pretty good year.”

This week’s events with the Outlaws include Friday night at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa and Saturday at the Deer Creek Speedway near Spring Valley, Minnesota. “Chad Morgan and Chad Ely keep giving me good cars, and hopefully, we can go run at Spencer and Deer Creek this weekend and have a good showing,” says Brian. “We’ve been good at Spencer the last few times we’ve been there. Deer Creek is the FVP Showdown, so obviously we want to do well for their employees and customers there.”

Brian's Q&A

Andrew Waddle asks: Who is your favorite music artist?

Brian answers: I would say my favorite is one that Heather and I were able to see in concert recently, and that was Brad Paisley. He’s quite the entertainer. Anything country is really my forte. I will listen to hip hop now and then, but usually it’s country for me.

Marketing Partner of the Week – Maxim Racing

Brian says, “Chuck and Karen Merrill are not only great people, but they put everything into putting the best car out on the market. I’ve always been a supporter of theirs, and with Brian Brown Racing, you’ll always see their chassis.”

Brian has been partnering with Maxim since 2003. After years of success as a car owner, Chuck Merrill started his chassis business in a rented three-bay garage in November of 1988. The first car was driven by Johnny Herrera at the Florida All Stars Sprint Week in February of 1989. By June of that year, Maxim moved into a 7,000 square foot facility. By 2001, Maxim had grown substantially producing 304 chassis that year. In 2002, Maxim moved to its present 12,500 square foot location in Springfield, Illinois. Maxim continues to offer their customers unmatched service and support, and currently has 17 quality employees, and builds over 400 chassis on an annual basis. Their world-famous “K-car” was designed for Steve Kinser, and has won ten Knoxville Nationals titles and fourteen World of Outlaws championships! Associate Marketing Partner of the Week – Red Devil Brakes

Brian says – “The braking system is one of the most important parts on the car. Red Devil and Ultralight have not only the strongest, but the lightest brakes out there. It’s the only caliper I will use. I’ve used others, and there is a night and day difference.”

Investment Cast Ceramic Coated 8740 Chromoly and Titanium 6-4 Racing Brake Rotors are the strongest Brake Rotors in the world. Having high tensile strength in the 140,000 to 160,000 range makes them almost 4 times the strength of the best racing cast iron rotors on the market. They are almost half the weight and have 25 % more continuous stopping power. Learn more at www.RedDevilBrakes.com!
