Inside Line Promotions – WATSONVILLE, Calif. (April 4, 2016) – Chase Johnson has an exciting weekend on tap.

Johnson is scheduled to make his debut at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., this Friday when he will pilot a midget for Matt Wood Racing during the Kokomo Grand Prix with the USAC National Midget Series.

“I think that will be a lot of fun,” he said. “I’ve been to Kokomo to watch two years ago. That place is very neat. You rank that track up there with the great tracks in Indiana. To race in the state of Indiana will be awesome.”

Johnson will then return to his home state on Saturday morning to tackle the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Saturday and Sunday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, where he won his first career World of Outlaws heat race to advance into the dash last year.

“I’m really excited to head back to Calistoga,” he said. “I’ve always loved going to that place. I love the fans there, the track, the promoters. It puts on a really good show and we’ve had quite a bit of success there.”

Johnson is coming off a learning night last Friday at Ocean Speedway during the Ocean Outlaw Showdown presented by Budweiser. He qualified 23rd quickest before driving the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car from eighth to seventh place in a World of Outlaws heat race and from fifth to fourth place in the Last Chance Showdown.

“We really struggled at the beginning,” Johnson said. “It was opposite from what we had in Placerville (the week before). We were way too tight and had too much bite. We were tight from hot laps to qualifying to the heat race. It was hard to lay down a good lap on the cushion. That put us behind. When you get stuck behind in qualifying you get stuck behind the whole night, especially when you’re running with the best guys in the world.”

Johnson spent most of the main event battling for a top 20 before he posted a 21st-place result.

“Starting that far back it’s tough to move up many positions due to the track conditions and because everybody is so good,” he said. “You have to have a great car and get on the move quickly to pass a lot of cars. Overall, the car came home in one piece and we got a little more knowledge so those were positives.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Newman Freeman Racing

During the 1976 auto racing season, actor Paul Newman became interested in forming a professional auto racing team and contacted Bill Freeman from Santa Barbara. Freeman is credited as the man who introduced Newman to professional auto racing management and their company specialized in Can-Am, Indy Cars and other high performance racing automobiles.

“The reason Paul Newman got into racing was because of a guy named Bill Freeman,” Johnson said. “Bill hasn’t really been involved in racing since Paul’s death so we really appreciate his support and partnership.”

Johnson would also like to thank Johnny Franklin’s Mufflers, PitStopUSA.com, Shifty Illusions, Napa Auto Parts, Flowmaster, Don’s Truck Repair, VSR, Oroville Cycle, I-Wear Graphix, Driven Raceway, Nor-Cal Transmission and Chevron Pro-Gas for their continued support.
