Fan Promotion Huge Success with Help of Virginia Motor Speedway Drivers

Jamaica, VA – For two weeks prior to the Saturday August 18th historic Scout Night at the Virginia Motor Speedway, competitors at the high-speed half-mile clay oval handed out free passes to their family members, friends and co-workers to invite them out to watch them race.

What followed was a record setting weekly audience for the facility.

An estimated crowd of nearly 4,000 people packed the facility for a picture-perfect night of racing which included a twin race format that excited all those in attendance.

“This was a really successful promotion that we hope will lead to larger crowds at all of our future events. We have been inundated with emails and phone calls from first time visitors that really enjoyed themselves and we want to thank everyone that participated in the promotion,� commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.

After sorting and counting nearly 2,200 free passes, Virginia Motor Speedway officials are pleased to announce the top recruits and winners of some fantastic awards.

The Victory Lap Late Model division produced the top two recruiters with Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA topping all drivers with 274 fans filtering through the gates with a free pass embellished with his name and car number. The Victory Lap Late Model leading rookie will receive a set of tires courtesy of Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA finished a close second with 255 passes returned and will receive twenty gallons of Sunoco Racing Fuel courtesy of Hank Thomas Performance.

Ten gallons of Sunoco Racing Fuels will go to Truckin Thunder Sportsman rookie Thomas Rose of Gloucester, VA who finished third, Truckin Thunder Sportsman driver Tommy Upshaw finishing fourth and Budweiser Modified rookie Donnie Smith of Fredericksburg, VA finishing fifth in the final free pass count.

Each of the drivers finishing sixth through tenth will receive a free pit pass for the Saturday September 1st race. They include Truckin Thunder Sportsman drivers Taylor Doggett of Ruther Glen, VA, Macey Causey of Seaford, VA, Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA; Collision One driver Wesley Givens of Mechanicsville, VA and Budweiser Modified point leader Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA.

Racing gets back underway this Saturday September 1st with Safety-Kleen, Collision One, Pepsi, WIGO Championship Night featuring twin races for all four Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Divisions. Champions will be crowned in all four divisions this Saturday.

Competitor gates for Saturday, September 1st will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (Twin 20 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (Twin 15 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (Twin 15 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (Twin 12 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.

Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 13 – 17 years old $6, children 7 to 12 $4 and children 6 and under admitted free. We offer a family pass for $25 (two adults and two children 12 and under). Pit passes will be $20.

To enhance the fans racing experience the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM. So bring your portable radio headset and enjoy hearing all the action.
