FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / Silver Dollar Speedway
Cole Macedo Wins Thrilling Sprint Car Race

CHICO, Calif., June 28, 2024…Cole Macedo picked up his second win of his career at Silver Dollar Speedway Friday night by winning the 30-lap main event. Tonight’s race was in honor of Bill Brownell and Tommy Herseth. The main event was marred with three failed attempts to start the feature. The most serious was a situation involving Richard Brace Jr. who flipped violently into the catch fence coming off turn four. Brace Jr. was alert but complained of back and arm pain.

The field lined up single file and was about to complete the first two laps until another caution was needed. Max Mittry, while battling for the lead, drifted up and over the turn four banking and spun into the turn four wall. Another driver who enjoyed a good night of racing but ultimately slid off the turn four area was Nick Parker. He won his heat race earlier in the night and was battling for a top five spot when he too spun out in turn four.

Up front Macedo was setting a torrid pace. Macedo was weaving in and out of traffic with ease. He was also picking his spots and not trying to force things. Ryan Bernal was wheeling and dealing tonight. Bernal was very impressive. As he was chasing Macedo, he drifted up and over the back straight away banking. His right rear lost grip and his car drifted off the edge of the track in turn three. This moved Sean Becker into second. His good buddy Andy Forsberg shadowed Becker for a few laps before getting to the inside of Becker in turn three and slid up in front of him for second. Following Forsberg around Becker was Chase Johnson.

As laps trickled down, Macedo continued to lead. Forsberg had a late race charge as Macedo was bottled up behind slower traffic. Forsberg made one last gasp for the lead but slid up the track and lost momentum coming to the white flag. Macedo motored away and picked up the win. Johnson chased Forsberg into turn three and slid for the spot. Forsberg countered the move and was able to drive back by for second. Becker finished fourth. Shane Golobic rounded out the top five. Kaleb Montgomery started 21st and finished 8th to win the hard charger handshake award. Macedo was the fastest qualifier and turned 11.580 second lap.

The Hobby Stocks put on a great show. Nine cars battled it out for 20 laps tonight. The win went to Aaron Flournoy, his second of the season. Things were not easy though. The 2022 track champion Zach Lindgren was all over Flournoy most of the night. The race didn’t get decided until the final lap. Lindgren tried to make a move for the win and couldn’t get by Flournoy. Lindgren lost momentum and was never able to challenge for the lead on the final lap. Jason Clayton ran a solid race all night and finished third. Kyle Allen charged through the field and finished fourth. Ken Reische rounded out the top five. Flournoy won the first hear race. Clayton earned the honors in heat two. The Hobby Stocks return for July 4th.

Tyler Rodgers won the eight-lap heat race and went on to win the 20 lap IMCA Sport Mod main event. It was another win this season at Chico for Rodgers. He did fend off pressure from Ray Lindeman late in the race, who made things interesting. But in the end Rodgers was just too good. Lindeman had a good showing and hung on for second place. Third went to Mike Ficklin. Fourth spot went to Shaun Merritt. Scott Savell rounded out the top five. The IMCA Sport Mods return for July 4th.
