Nick Snyder to Compete for Novelis Supermodified Rookie of the Year Honors at Oswego Speedway
OSWEGO, NY (June 7, 2024) - As the second Novelis Supermodified points event of the 2024 season approaches at the Oswego Speedway, Snyder Racing is again gearing up to have two cars on the track.
The excitement is building as veteran driver Tim Snyder and his son, Nick Snyder, prepare to compete side by side. Tim Snyder will drive the brand-new No. 0, while 24-year-old Nick Snyder takes the wheel of the No. 20, also known as the 2nd Zero, in his bid for the Rookie of the Year title.
Nick made his Oswego Speedway debut just two weeks ago during the 73rd Season Kickoff. Despite that being his first time ever in a Supermodified, he quickly found his groove, clocking an impressive 17.4 seconds and racing competitively in the heat and feature, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting rookie season.
Racing, of course, is a family tradition for the Snyders. Tim is a long mainstay and fan favorite at the Oswego Speedway, having been a regular Supermodified competitor for over 30 years, and securing 10 feature wins throughout his career, including the 2001 International Classic.
Meanwhile, Nick's journey to the Supermodified class has certainly been unique. He raced go-karts at the Oswego Kartway in 2013 and 2014 and then played high school hockey from freshman through varsity levels.
As a sophomore, he recognized his potential in hockey and transitioned to AAA hockey. After graduating high school, Snyder then played junior hockey for three years in Oswego, Boston, Philadelphia, and New Jersey. He is currently completing his business management major at King's College, with plans to pursue a year of professional hockey if possible. For his Dad, Tim, seeing his son “get that degree” has always been essential.
“Nick has earned this opportunity and he deserves it. It has been something we've always talked about,” Snyder said. “I told him he had to get a degree first and he's working on his major in business management. Maybe people might wonder why we go right to a Super and we are doing that because we have one for him after building a new car. This is all good stuff in the Hawk car that I would race if I didn't have the new car. We got the car going well at the end of the season last year and it should be a decent piece for him to start with. We got the new car together to try some different ideas, and Joey Hawksby has been very helpful working with us on that, and we’re excited to see how it goes.”

For Nick, the longstanding success and knowledge of his father and the Snyder Racing crew give him a very strong foundation as he embarks on his racing journey in the team’s proven Hawk Chassis, while Tim is busy taking on his new challenge.
"I've wanted to do this for a long time and it’s a dream come true to be able to do it alongside my Dad with his team and have my family so involved," he said. "I just want to stay out of my Dad’s way and everyone's way, keep the car in one piece, roll it in the trailer, log laps, and gain the respect and trust of other drivers. I've been waiting a long time to do this and want to make the most of it.”
Nick's passion for both sports is evident as he shared, "I tell people all the time, I feel like the luckiest guy in the world. Living in Oswego, chances are a lot of guys either want to drive a Supermodified or play college hockey. To get to do both, I'm very, very fortunate."
