Matt Cosner races into Winter Nationals opener at Ocala Speedway
Matt Cosner returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Tuesday as the series visited the newly rebranded Ocala Speedway (Ocala, Fla.) for the two-day Winter Nationals.
After missing a transfer spot by one car in his heat race with a fifth-place outing, Matt stormed into the opener with a flag-to-flag victory in his 10-lap B-Main. Chasing the $10,000 top prize in the feature, Cosner recorded a 22nd-place outing.
For another $10,000-to-win program on Wednesday, Cosner’s seventh-place finish in his heat dropped him into a B-Main. Need to place second or better to make the show, Matt fell short with a fifth-place finish.
With the Southern All Star Series on Friday and Saturday at Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Ga.) for the Winter Freeze XIV, Matt locked into Friday’s preliminary with the third-fastest qualifying lap in a field of 34 cars. Rolling off on the second row, Cosner was taken out by another competitor while running third that brought a disappointing end to his night.
On Saturday, Cosner squeezed into the $12,000-to-win Winter Freeze XIV finale with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Starting in 13th, Matt suffered a flat left-rear tire on lap 47 of the 50-lapper that ended his top-10 run.
