Arbuthnot stays perfect while Pecore gets 100 in Ogilvies Triple Crown at Brockville

After a week off thanks to a steady day of rain last Saturday, the drivers at the Brockville Ontario Speedway were ready for battle as the first round of the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series for the 358 Modified and Sportsman highlighted the night. It was night of excitement and one driver reached a milestone.

The Mini Stock division was ready for 15 laps of fast paced action and Hayden Brown led the early laps over James Clark, Marc Dagenais Jamie Larocque and Matt Boal. The top 4 drivers started to break away from the field as they put on a great show, but towards the middle portion of the field, a scary situation arose for Ryan Brown. Heading into turn 1&2 Brown lost control and went off the track, sending his car into a series of barrel rolls, resulting in a red flag. Brown was able to climb from the car uninjured. The car was destroyed. James Clarke decided he wanted to take a turn at the front as he took the lead on the restart over Hayden Brown and defending track champion Jamie Larocque. Clarke would pull away by over a straight away in the remaining laps and without the help of a caution flag, Hayden Brown Jamie Larocque and the rest of the field had no chance of catching him. Clarke went on to win his first feature of the year and first since July 3rd of 2021 at Brockville. Brown, Laroque, Dagenais and Dakota Boal rounded out the top 5.

The phrase, “it ain’t over till it’s over” was proven in the 40 lap Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series opener for the DIRTCar Sportsman. Defending track and series champion Bobby Herrington led the way comfortably in the opening laps, with Shane Pecore, Shane Stearns Xavier Andrews and Dylan Kirkland trying to run him down. In the early laps Herrington was clearly the dominant force and began lapping cars like not many of the fans had ever seen in recent memory. At lap 20 Herrington had put all cars except for the top 10, 1 lap down. Shane Pecore continued to roll on and was making steady laps in second with Stearns, Andrews and Kirkland continuing to complete the top 5 drivers. With 15 laps remaining all but the top 5 drivers were on the lead lap, which left everyone wondering if Herrington could possibly lap the field with Pecore being nearly a half track behind. On lap 29 that all went away as Shane Stearns tangled with a lap car in turn 3 and the caution flew. This restart gave Pecore the chance he needed to challenge Herrington for the lead and have a shot at his 100th career Sportsman win. When the green flew Pecore went to the high side and got by for the top spot leaving Herrington behind in 2nd. Over the final laps Pecore ran the top lane to perfection and after bad luck two weeks ago, Shane Pecore would march on for his first win of the year, his 5th career Ogilvie’s Series win and more importantly, his 100th career Sportsman win. Herrington settled for 2nd, with Dylan Kirkland, Xavier Andrews and Brennan Moore.

Next up was the DIRTCar 358 Modified portion of the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series and the question was still out there. Could Danny O’Brien win his 100th Brockville Modified feature? O’Brien did start up front but it was Cornwall Speedway champion Corey Wheeler leading the way early on over O’Brien, Ryan Arbuthnot, Ryan Stabler and Kyle Dingwall. Wheeler had a great car and was running strong in pursuit of his 2nd career series win but Ryan Arbuthnot, the three-time and defending Ogilvie’s champion, was on the move and looking for the lead. Arbuthnot went right to work getting by O’Brien for the second spot after a spirited battle. Arbuthnot then managed to run down Wheeler as the leaders worked lapped traffic. After a great battle, Arbuthnot was able to get the lead away on lap 32 and start to author a dominant performance. Behind him O’Brien was doing all he could to gain ground on the race leader. The 4-time Ogilvie’s champion got by Wheeler for second in the closing laps, but had to make up nearly a straight away to catch Arbuthnot. On this night, the defending champion made a statement that he was the dominant force, as Ryan Arbuthnot made it 2 for 2 to start the season and his 5th career Ogilvie’s Series victory. O’Brien’s 100th win would have to wait another day as he crossed in 2nd. With Kyle Dingwall, Corey Wheeler and Ryan Stabler completing the top 5. Arbuthnot receiving the Fulton Speedway Outlaw 200 guaranteed starter spot representing Brockville.

After issues in the DIRTCar 358 Modified division, Lee Ladouceur was looking to turn his night around in the 15 lap Trailer Pro Canada Crate Sprint Car feature. Ladouceur would lead early with Can Am Speedway Crate Sprint Car track champion Josh Verne Jr. invading and running in the second spot. These two drivers were the class of the field and pulled away from the battle for third being contested between Adam Turner and Evan Reynolds. The only caution flew on lap 12 as Reynolds would spin his car off turn 3 but was able to continue. On the final restart Ladouceur remained in front, but Verne had other ideas. When you aren’t chasing points, it’s all about the win and that’s what he went for as Verne pulled even with Ladouceur on the white flag lap down the back stretch. Ladouceur gave him the lane but Verne slipped up just enough to allow Ladouceur to hold on for his first win of the season. Josh Verne Jr.’s debut at Brockville resulted in a 2nd place finish, with Adam Turner, Andrew Hennessy and Cam McKinnon completing the top 5.

The final event of the night saw a great 12 lap Novice Sportsman battle and Dylan Moore was in control in the opening laps, over opening day winner Matt Pruner and Skylar Ladouceur close behind. Moore remained steady at the head of the field while Pruner did all he could do to get by. With the race going caution free Matt Pruner and Skylar Ladouceur were not able to get by as Dylan Moore would grab his first ever Brockville win and second of the weekend, after getting his first ever Novice Sportsman win at Mohawk on Friday night. Pruner and Ladouceur crossed 2nd and 3rd with Paul Donnelly and Melcolm Banks filling out the top 5.

Next week the Surprenant Action Sprint Tour East Series returns along with the season opener for the Street Stocks. The DIRTCar 358 Modified and DIRTCar Sportsman will be on hand along with Novice Sportsman, all brought to you by Eastern Ontario Eavestrough. The first green flag will fly at 7pm.
