Merrittville Speedway Unveils 71st Season Schedule
THOROLD, ONTARIO (March 4th, 2022) … Canada’s Oldest Dirt Track has unveiled its 2022 schedule. Merrittville Speedway is also pleased to welcome Corr/Pak Merchandising, Right Choice Auto and Leisure and Vansickle Pet Valu/PV on the Lane as divisional sponsors. They join long time division sponsors Hoosier Tire of Canada and Rona Doidge Building Centres. Niagara’s premiere racing facility also welcomes Doug Leonard back to the Merrittville Speedway family as Race Director.
The racing gets under way with the Spring Sizzler on Saturday April 23rd. The 2022 edition of the event will feature the return of Southern Ontario Sprints to the 3/8th’ s of a mile facility. The 358-Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks and 4 Cylinders will also kick of the highly anticipated event.
The Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series begins the following Saturday April 30th for the 71st Season Opener. Drivers in the Corr/Pak Merchandising 358-Modifieds will begin their quest for the track championship, alongside the DIRTcar sanctioned Right Choice Auto and Leisure Sportsman. Rona Doidge Building Centres Mod Lites are back to contest the d-shaped oval in Thorold. Hoosier Stocks and Vansickle Pet Valu 4 Cylinder divisions will be competing under ODCC rules and will also begin their campaign on April 30th.
The month of May sees a return of the V6 class on May 7th and St. Catharines Husky Duel on the Dirt event #1 for the Hoosier Stocks. May 14th marks the Brian Stevens Memorial Modified Race. The event also features the 358-Modifieds competing for the $444 Pole Dash Challenge. The 4 Cylinders partake in their first St. Catharines Husky Duel on the Dirt event. The Tim Hortons Enduro Qualifier #1 accelerated by JC Auto will take place on May 21st. The Southern Ontario Sprints Return to Merrittville on the holiday Monday May 23rd, along with the U.M.P. Modifieds.
The month of June kicks off with first of two Family Autograph Nights on June 4th. Niagara Trail Maintenance Association will be giving away new bikes to lucky fans. The following week, the Action Sprint Tour makes their first appearance at Merrittville of 2022 on June 11th . The same night in which the track will host its first School Bus Race and the annual Best Appearing Dog Contest. June 12th the Monsters of Merrittville Monster Truck Show Accelerated by 97.7 HTZ FM taking place at 1pm. It is Retro Race Shirt night June 18th, with all eyes on the Vansickle Pet Valu/PV on the Lane 4 Cylinder St. Catharines Husky Duel on The Dirt event #2. The following week Merrittville Speedway will host the Gary Cunningham Memorial on June 25th featuring the Southern Ontario Sprints, Modifieds, Hoosier Stocks, 4 Cylinders and Tim Hortons Enduro Qualifier #2, as well as Toonie Hot Dogs.
July 2nd will be School’s Out for Summer Night featuring Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing, a School Bus Race and Fireworks. On July 9th, the annual Transport Sales and Service Truck Show n’ Shine will be held. You can call now to reserve a spot for your Transport, Dump Truck or Tow Truck at 905-892-8266. The Action Sprint Tour is back on July 19th along with the Duel on the Dirt #2 for the Hoosier Stocks. Merrittville Speedway celebrates its rich history on July 23rd with Nostalgia Night 2022 and Wall of Fame Induction Night. The Vintage Cars will be a part of a show with the Modlites, Hoosier Stocks, DIRTcar Sportsman. The evening will be capped off with the Jerry Winger Memorial 50 Lap Modified Race. Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing continues July 30th with the addition of the V6’s.
August begins with a bang on the Civic Holiday Monday with the Canadian Grand Nationals. The Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, and Hoosier Stock’s will all compete for $2000 to win features. Modlites will compete for $1000 to win as do the 4 cylinders in the combined St. Catharines Husky Duel on The Dirt. The Bill Willard Sr. Sterling Silver Sportsman event will take place on August 6th, a night that features another highly popular School Bus race and our annual Kids Box Car Race. August 13th brings our second Family Autograph Night. Hot Tub Heaven sponsors August 20th with Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing and will be rewarding a lucky fan a hot tub for their leisure. The Action Sprint Tour headline August 27th with their 3rd and final trip of 2022. The 358-Modifieds, Hoosier Stocks, Modlites, 4 cylinders and V6’s will also join the card.
With the race season winding down, Merrittville Speedway brings the 71st Season Championship Points Finale on the 3rd of September. This event will be featuring the 50 lap John Spencer Memorial, and the tracks final School Bus race of the season. The Southern Ontario Sprints make their final appearance with the final night of stock car racing for the season September 10th. The night will also feature a 50 Lap DIRTcar Sportsman event, Hoosier Stocks Duel on the Dirt Combined Race, 4 Cylinders and V6’s. The extremely popular Wreckfest 2022 will take place September 17th featuring Ontario’s only School Bus Demolition Derby, a $3500 to win 100 Lap Enduro plus Backwards Race, Ladies Race, Flagpole Race and More. The Monsters of Merrittville return September 24th featuring Merrittville crowd favourite Monster Trucks like Train Wreck, as well as Freestyle Motocross and Figure 8 race.
October 15th will be the annual Merrittville Market’s 5th Annual Fall Craft and Vendor Market. Check the Merrittville Speedway brand new website and our social media pages for registration dates.
On November 12th, the track will crown division champions, and recognize those with successful a season, at Merrittville Speedway’s Annual Night of Awards and Recognition. This event will take place at John Michaels Conference and Banquet Centre at 1368 Upper’s Lane in Thorold, ON.
