Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2018) – Trey Starks capped last weekend by scoring a sixth-place result during the Dirt Classic at Lincoln Speedway.
The Gobrecht Motorsports driver qualified second quickest despite going out last in time trials. He then won the first heat race from the pole before maneuvering from eighth to fourth place in the second heat race. That ranked him first in overall points and garnered the pole position for the main event.
“We set ourselves up well through the first half of the night,” Starks said. “That’s always the goal is to be in contention for the win once the green flag is waved for the main event. We knew it’d be tough with Lance Dewease starting beside us and all of the great competition right behind us.
“Lance got the jump right away and we ran second. We had an opportunity to close in on Lance in traffic and I knew I had to make something happen so I pushed hard. I ended up getting over the cushion and that allowed three guys to get by. Then we lost one more spot in the closing laps. We weren’t able to contend for the win, but we held on for a sixth-place effort during one of Central Pennsylvania’s biggest races so we were pleased overall.”
The sixth-place finish was Starks’ best finish at Lincoln Speedway since a fifth-place result in July 2017.
The weekend began on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, where Starks placed 11th during the Al Hamilton Tribute/Dirt Classic Qualifier main event that had been postponed a couple of weeks because of rain.
He then competed in a full program, finishing sixth in a heat race before exiting the track early in the main event at the half-mile oval.
“We knocked the nose wing down and were running midpack so we pulled in,” he said. “It wasn’t our best night so I’m glad we were able to rebound the following night at Lincoln.”
Starks is scheduled to compete in a trio of races this weekend. The action begins on Friday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa. BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, Pa., hosts a race on Saturday before Starks wraps up the weekend on Sunday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
