Inside Line Promotions – KUTZTOWN, Pa. (May 29, 2019) – Joey Amantea earned a pair of top-five results in his non-wing micro sprint last week during a busy four-race schedule spread over six days.
The week began on Wednesday at Shellhammers Speedway in Shoemakersville, Pa., where Amantea placed sixth in a heat race before ending a career-best 14th in the main event.
“The track is so small and my problem is throttle control,” he said. “I’m just on the gas too much. I was literally half throttle and that was too much. I have to keep learning there.”
Amantea ventured to Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., on Friday. He advanced from eighth to seventh place in a heat race before powering from 14th to fifth in the A Main.
“The car was really fast and I was picking off cars really quick,” he said. “I got lucky a couple of times. On one restart two cars got tangled up so I got a couple of easy spots. With two laps to go a couple of guys got into each other and I went by both of them. I was catching the fourth-place car, but ran out of time. Overall it was a really good night.”
The best result of the weekend happened on Saturday at Hamlin Speedway in Hamlin, Pa., where Amantea maneuvered from third to second place in both a heat race and the main event.
“Come feature-time I got the lead on Lap 7 and led five laps,” he said. “Then my buddy Colin White caught me and threw a slide job. He checked out and that was it. It was a fun race. The track was fantastic. We’ll be going back there a lot more than we anticipated.”
The holiday weekend concluded on Monday at Action Track USA, where more than 60 drivers competed in the non-wing micro sprint race. Amantea improved throughout the night, finishing eighth in a heat race, second in the D Main and fifth in the C Main to narrowly miss transferring into the B Main.
“We were having issues figuring out what to do early,” he said. “We loosened up the car from practice. Then it was bad in the heat. We completely changed everything for the D Main and it worked great. It felt great in the D Main and C Main. If I would have made it to the B Main I think I could have made it in the show. The car was awesome.”
Amantea will return to Hamlin Speedway this Saturday and Action Track USA on Sunday.
