Inside Line Promotions – NEWMANSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2019) – Joey Amantea highlighted a three-race weekend with a fourth-place finish last Friday night at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa.
Amantea finished where he started – fourth – in a heat race. That advanced him into the feature redraw and he lined up on the outside of the front row after a favorable draw.
On the start, Amantea and the leader made contact, which shuffled Amantea back to the fourth position. He maintained a top five throughout the race before ending fourth, marking his 15th top five of the season.
“We started off the night really fast, but just didn’t have the speed to win,” he said. “We did our best and I was happy with a top five.”
Next up on the schedule was a trip to Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on Saturday for Night 1 of the Labor Day Shootout. Saturday night’s portion was winged micro sprint competition and Amantea placed seventh in a heat race before he was caught up in a crash during a qualifier. That ended his night early.
“We were fantastic in practice, but the track drastically changed and it was a nightmare,” he said. “I got in a wreck there later and it ended the night and the season for that car. It needs a new frame and it just wasn’t good.”
The weekend concluded on Sunday when Amantea participated in non-wing micro sprint action. He started his heat from the fifth position and moved forward one spot to finish fourth. That lined him up second in the qualifier. On the opening circuit he and another car made contact. Amantea sustained damage to his car, but he managed to hold on for a sixth-place finish.
Amantea and his team worked hard to make repairs prior to a B Main, which he started from the pole position. He went on to lead every lap and qualified for the A Main in the 22nd starting position. On the opening lap of the feature, Amantea was forced to slow down due to a spin in front of him and a car rear ended him, ending his night early again.
“I wasn’t bad in the heat race, but the night really went downhill from there,” he said. “We worked really hard to fix things and managed to get into the show. But we were so far back that we were a sitting duck. It was a long and expensive weekend.”
Amantea will return to Linda’s Speedway this Friday before heading to Hamlin Speedway in Hamlin, Pa., on Saturday.
