Edwardson, Menard, Kennedy, Zevenbergen, and Moore Claim 6/13 Victories

A season high of 87 race cars checked into Park Jefferson Speedway for the June 13th race program. Feature winners include Aaron Edwardson in the Sport Compacts, Paul Menard in the Hobby Stocks, Kaleb Kennedy in the Pederson Machine Sport Mods, Elijah Zevenbergen in the J&J Fitting Stock Cars, and Bob Moore in the Sign Masters Modifieds.

Andrew Vogt jumped to the early lead in the Sport Compact feature while Aaron Edwardson applied heavy pressure for the lead. A flat right front tire would cause Vogt to go over the banking in turn four, allowing Edwardson to inherit the lead on the restart. Tim Cass would run solidly in 2nd position but was never strong enough to mount a challenge for the lead. The race for third was highly contested as three cars battled for position, with Shane Sexton eventually winning that battle by using the high line to pass Andrew Harris and Doug Rush. Edwardson would go on to take his 2nd victory of the season, with Cass in 2nd, and Sexton finishing 3rd.

Hobby Stock feature action saw Derek Husted take the lead from his front row starting position, as the field jockeyed door-to-door, and bumper-to-bumper for position behind him. Mike Hanson maneuvered on the inside of his competitors from his mid-pack starting position to get into the top five. Paul Menard took the lead from Husted on lap 3, but Husted fought back to take the lead back on lap 4. A caution on lap 5 would reset the field, with Menard finally taking the lead for good from Husted. Mike Hanson would make his way to 2nd and set his sights on Menard for the lead. Menard held off Hanson’s final challenge coming to the finish line to win by half a car length. In his first appearance of the season, Menard claimed victory, with Hanson in 2nd, and David Miller in 3rd.

Pederson Machine Sport Mods saw front row starter Kaleb Kennedy jump to the lead, while Todd Boulware quickly made his way to 2nd from his mid-pack starting position. By the time Boulware passed Dan VanBruggen for 2nd, Kennedy was already a half-straightaway ahead. Kennedy maneuvered through lap traffic flawlessly so Boulware never made up ground on the race leader. Karl Brewer tried for many laps to get by VanBruggen, and finally succeeded with a few laps remaining. Kennedy cruised to his 2nd win on the season, denying runner up Todd Boulware his third consecutive victory at Park Jefferson. Karl Brewer finished third in the caution free 16 lap feature.

Elijah Zevenbergen used the middle groove to acquire the lead on the opening lap in J&J Fitting Stock Car action. Zevenbergen had a 10 car length advantage before Chris Mills moved into the 2nd position. Mills would drive hard into turn three on the bottom to slowly cut into Zevenbergen’s lead. Mills got within two car lengths, but a yellow with 4 laps remaining would put him on his bumper. Zevenbergen would move to the bottom in turns three and four, taking away the line Mills had used to reel Zevenbergen in before the yellow, which didn’t allow Mills to get a serious look for the lead in the final laps. In his 2nd appearance of the season, Zevenbergen picked up his 2nd win at Park Jefferson, with Mills taking 2nd, and Justin Regneres finishing third.

Sign Masters Modifieds had the looks of Bob Moore cruising to an easy victory until a late caution gave his competitors a chance to steal a victory. Brian Schmitt would use the top side of the track to move by Jason Schneiders for 2nd, and allowing him to apply heavy pressure on Moore. Moore’s car was strong off corner exit allowing him to fend off Schmitt. The late caution allowed Ricky Stephan who started far back at the start, to move into 2nd in the final two laps, but come up just short by one car length as Moore held on for his 2nd victory of the season, with Stephan in 2nd, and Schmitt finishing 3rd.
