Hoffman, Abelson and Abbas take checkers at Park Jefferson Speedway

With a pit area and infield holding standing water, the Park Jefferson Speedway hosted the IMCA Racing Series featuring the Road to the Iron Cup for the Z98 IMCA Hobby Stocks. When it was all done, it was the familiar 8X of Andy Hoffman standing in the winner circle $375 richer.

On a bone dry racetrack, it was Hoffman who came from the third row to roar by front row starters Kevin Bruck and Paul Menard. Hoffman was the beneficiary of the draw/redraw format and was able to win heat race number 2 over Adam Lee from Salix. Rusty Montague was 2nd for the Z98 IMCA Hobby Stocks with top Dunlap, Iowa driver Kevin Bruck finishing in 4rd. A solid point battle is ongoing as the top 5 drivers are separated by a small margin of points.

Mr. Excitement Chris Abelson finally broke Jay Noteboom’s ownership on victory lane as Abelson was able to come from row 3 along with Shane Demey to take checkers for the Artworks Graphics IMCA Holiday. Bob Moore rounded out the podium over Honey Creek Iowa’s Travis Hatcher and the immortal Jim Cole. Abelson was the winner of heat race number one, with Hatcher and Demey winning heats 2 and 3.

IMCA Sprint Car action saw Casey Abbas of Lennox, South Dakota return to the track and victory lane. Abbas, who had not won a feature this year but was very tough last year, used his home built engine to put the 17V in victory lane. He did so by holding off Harrisburg’s Dusty Ballenger, who returned from a vicious flip last weekend. Brand O’Banion rounded out the top three. Jesse Lindberg of Sioux Falls and Abbas won the heat races.

The J&J Fitting IMCA Stock Cars saw Aaron Cain of Sioux City take a well deserved checkers in a J&J Fitting Sponsored car. Cain was able to take advantage of his pole position starting spot to hold off challenges from Greg Taylor and Todd Gereau. Division point leader Jason Ward and Ryan Harris both made valent charges from the middle of the field but could not break into the top three. Jeremie Gibbs of Sioux Falls, Zach Olivier of Sioux Falls and Ward took the three heat races.

Cody Thompson continues to run away with the IMCA Sport Modified point battle as he picked up an exciting win starting in the 12th spot. Thompson has quickly let it be known that he is the king of the sport modifieds at Park Jefferson now that Todd Boulware has moved up. Thompson was able to sweep to victory over Alton, Iowa’s Conner VendeWeerd and Vermilion’s Karl Brewer. Jeff Brunssen also had an exciting charge to 4th from the 11th starting position. It was Justin Kylnsma, Darin Roepke and Kole Nordquist taking the heat wins.

Andrew Harris once again put the beautiful 22 car in victory lane after beating David Bates and Derek Boggs. Bates and Boggs are promising to make this season a challenging point battle, although Harris, ever improving Cullen Gossage and more will try to keep the point action interesting.

The ever exciting Midwest Classic Stock Cars were on hand with their authentic old time vehicles courtesy of Motor Parts Central. It was exciting for fans to see the inaugural visit of the cars of yesteryear.

This Saturday night, KVHT Classic Hits 106.3 and KVTK ESPN Radio 1570 will be bringing in the Nebraska Modified Lite Series for their first visit in 2018 to Park Jefferson. The mod lites will give the track 3 full modified division Saturday as the IMCA Sprint Cars will take the week off. Adult tickets are $12, seniors 70+ are $5 and children 6-16 just $2. Gates open at 5pm with hot laps at 6:30. For more information go to www.parkjeff.com.
