Eddy Takes $1000 to win Mod Race at Sandusky

The Sandusky Speedway held a special event Saturday night with 5 divisions in attendance. Travis Eddy picked up his fourth feature win of the 2016 modified season en route to a $1000 payday while Don Deyman fought some of the hardest twenty laps ever contested on the high side of the speedway to win the VROA modified feature. Clayton Karl would win his second sportsman feature of 2016 while Mark Resor would win his fifth street stock feature event. Dan Smith would earn his fourth feature event win of 2016 in the Hobby Stock division.
The 20 lap Wolfpack Sportsman division was up first as Randy Wedell and Clayton Karl led the field to the green flag with Karl taking the lead in turn two. Joe Borczuch would take the runner-up position in turn three on lap one while Jerry Karl would take the third position in turn one on lap two. Kegan Bartlome in his first sportsman start in the Logan Cooper car would take the fourth position from Wedell on the back straightaway on lap two.
Jeff Karl would go to the fifth position in turn one on lap three. Jerry Karl would grab the runner-up position on lap seven and would hunt down brother Clayton in the closing laps. Jerry would catch Clayton but the motor would sputter in turn four on the final lap in the #42 machine, giving Clayton Karl the win over Jerry Karl, Joe Borczuch, Kegan Bartlome, Jeff Karl, and Randy Wedell.
The 20 lap Milan Automotive Street Stock division feature was up next with Richard Sheriff and Macy Fox leading the field to the green flag. Mark Resor would take the second position from Fox on the back straightaway on lap one with Mike White following him through for third on the back straightaway on lap two. Resor would take the lead in turn one on lap eight with White following through to second in turn four on the same lap.Disaster would strike on lap fifteen in turn one as Mike White would spin Resor, resulting in White being sent to the tail end of the field.
Macy Fox would spin on the back straightaway on the restart and retire from the race. Mark Resor would go on to win over Doug Cantley, Mike White, and Richard Sheriff. Macy Fox did not finish.
The VROA modified feature would start with Jeff Barsen and Andrew Bartosek on the front row. Randy Pierson would go from 6th to the lead in the first five laps but Bartosek would slow after laying oil down on the speedway, relegating Pierson to third due to him being in that position on the last completed lap. Barsen, Rob Parker, Pierson, Don Deyman, and Dan Deyman were the top five at this juncture of the race.
Parker, Don Deyman, and Loren Peterson III would take the top three positions on the restart while Terry Byrne would take the fifth position in turn one on lap seven. Deyman would run twenty of the hardest laps ever contested on the speedway's outside groove to catch Parker and pass him with two laps to go for the lead. Don Deyman would go on to win over Rob Parker, Terry Byrne, Tom Boorsma, and Randy Pierson. John Evans, Dan Deyman, Ryan Boorsma, Jeff Barsen, Loren Peterson Jr, and Brian Beukema would round out the finishing order. Loren Peterson III and Andrew Bartosek did not finish.
The 40 lap modified feature was next up with Tom Joy and Chris Hamilton on the front row for the marathon grind. Joy would lose the handle on his car heading into turn two, getting up into Chris Hamilton and forcing both drivers to spin and cause a complete restart. Mark Bott would make contact with Kenny Phillips on lap four in turn four, forcing both drivers to retire from the race. Joy, Hamilton, Steven Drew, Joey Wyckoff, and Jason Wells made up the top five for the restart.
Wyckoff would take the third position in turn four on the restart but Jason Wells would take that position in turn four on lap eight. Wells would spin Chris Hamilton on lap nine in turn one with Wells being charged for the caution. Tom Joy, Chris Hamilton, Joey Wyckoff, Steven Drew and Joey Morisette were the top five for the restart.
Wyckoff would take the lead in turn two on lap ten with Morisette taking the third position on lap eleven in turn two. Morisette and his teammate Travis Eddy would move to the second and third positions on lap thirteen in turn one. Eddy would take the runner-up position in turn four on lap fifteen while Kenny Sharp would take the fourth position in turn four on lap sixteen. Chris Hamilton would slow on the track in turn four at the halfway point in the race. Joey Wyckoff, Travis Eddy, Joey Morisette, Kenny Sharp, and Tom Joy were the top five for the restart.
Eddy would take the lead on the restart. Craig Phillips and Tom Joy would make contact on lap twenty-three in turn four with Phillips being charged for the caution. Eddy, Wyckoff, Sharp, Morisette, and Wells were the top five for the restart. Ryan Winningham would spin on the back straightaway on the restart, forcing another restart with the same top five. Winningham would spin again on lap twenty-seven in turn two again with no change in the running order.
Jason Wells would take the fourth position on the front straightaway on lap twenty-nine but Winningham would once again spin in turn two on lap thirty-two. Eddy would lead Wyckoff, Sharp, Wells, and Morisette to the final restart. Kenny Sharp would take the runner-up position on lap thirty-three in turn two but Eddy would win over Sharp, Wyckoff, Wells, and Morisette. Craig Phillips, Jason Drew, Tom Joy, Logan Hamilton, and Steven Drew would round out the finishing order. Ryan Winningham, Chris Hamilton, Ryan Cypher, Kenny Phillips and Mark Bott did not finish.
The 15 lap Melinda! Melinda! Hobby Stock feature event was the last event of the night with John Collins and Richard Clem on the front row. Trent Aslaksen would take the runner-up position in turn one. Brandon Halcomb took the second position from Aslaksen in turn three on lap two.
Dan Smith would take the third position on lap three in turn two and would get the second position on lap five in turn three. Smith would take the lead from Clem on lap nine in turn two. Brandon Halcomb would take the runner-up position on lap thirteen in turn two but Dan Smith would win over Brandon Halcomb, Richard Clem, Trent Aslaksen, and Nick Wolfe. John Collins did not finish.
The speedway will be back in attendance on Saturday, July 23rd, with modifieds, sportsman, street stocks, and hobby stocks. The pit area will open at 3 o'clock with practice at 4. Qualfications will be at 5:30 with an autograph session at 6:30 in advance of the racing action set to begin at seven o'clock.
