Pospisil headlines Malvern Bank Late Models at Stuart

By Anthony Ainslie (Stuart, IA) -- The Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series and Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models East Series clashed for the first time ever Wednesday night and saw the 2017 Malvern Bank Series champion return to victory lane.

Two weeks after their first trip to the Stuart International Speedway was cut short due to rain, the Malvern Bank Super Late Model West Series returned to the high-banked quarter-mile bullring. This time, the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series had its inaugural race in a co-sanctioned clash. A massive field of 42 drivers from Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri made the trip to Stuart, and the field was narrowed down to 24 for the $3,000 to win main event.

A two-car pileup in turn four on the opening lap slowed the beginning of the 35-lap feature, but after the race got going, Charlie McKenna took early command of the lead. Jake Neal followed close behind while Tad Pospisil, Kyle Berck and Justin Kay kept things interesting in the top five. McKenna continued to ride the outside line bouncing off the wall numerous times.

The race for the lead got very interesting after the halfway mark as Tad Pospisil and Justin Kay took turns leading laps after overtaking McKenna. Meanwhile, Bill Leighton Jr. worked his way to the front and stayed a contender for the win all the way to the end.

However, it was Pospisil who conserved his equipment and maneuvered lapped traffic the way he needed to. Kay and Leighton both got close to Pospisil many times in the closing laps, but the 2017 series champion Held them both off to capture his first career win at Stuart and his 18th career Malvern Bank Series win, keeping him at second on the all-time win list, only three ahead of Leighton.
Leighton and Kay finished second and third while Kyle Berck took fourth, and Jason Hahne rounded out the top five.

The Malvern Bank West Series and Haulin with Hoker Trucking East Series go head-to-head again on Thursday, June 11, this time at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. Then, the West Series finishes out the week on Friday with their first visit to the series’ home track, the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska.
