Sunset Speedway Park would host the second round of the 2014 Wild West Modified Speedweek on Sunday July 20th. A total of twenty-eight entries would sign in on the registration sheets representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and North Dakota.
Travis Peery of Williston, North Dakota looked to make it two in a row in his Susan River Reality/Precision Chassis Development/SRD Construction #6P Precision as he started on the front row and was quite dominant for much of the race. In the first fifteen laps five cautions would take place resulting in Peery having to deal with an open race track.
Peery would set a rapid pace and as the lap count dwindled and he showed no signs of slowing down. But he would use up too much of his tires and briefly got out of shape on lap twenty-seven allowing for Mark Carrell to make the pass for the lead. Carrell, of Redmond, would lead the remaining distance in his Mark’s Auto Body #27 GRT entry for the win. It would mark the first time he has managed to score a victory during the Modified Speedweek.
Travis Peery would finish in second place followed by the S.D.M.F. Race Cars/F.M. Jones & Sons Quality Trucks and Autos/K.C. Race Engines #ZERO S.D.M.F. of Jesse Williamson from Coburg in third for car owner Dustin Comer. Cory Sample of Winnemucca, Nevada was fourth, after starting eighteenth, in his Dakota Diesel/Susan River Reality #00 Razor while in the fifth spot would be Chowchilla, California’s Alex Stanford in the Stanford Chopping/Golden Memorial Insurance/Precision Chassis Development/J&R Restaurant Equipment #98 Precision.
Nick Trenchard of Klamath Falls would win the B-Main in his Rich and Nicky Biehn owned Biehn Racing/Natures Images/Air Gas/Lithia Dodge-Toyota of Klamath Falls #54N Shaw while the S.D.M.F. Race Cars/Advocare #5M S.D.M.F. of Springfield’s Jake Mayden would win the Last Chance Qualifier. The Wild West Modified Speedweek will take Monday off as they get ready for races on Tuesday July 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd at Cottage Grove Speedway.
Both events will offer a $25.00 Car Load Special which means a carload, tuck-load, or RV-load full of fans get into the race for just $25.00. And racing is scheduled to get underway around 6:45 PM each night. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
