Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park returned to racing after taking last weekend off for the Banks BBQ. The Saturday, August 24th event featured six divisions at the “Banks Bullring.” Those classes included the Street Stocks, Pure Stocks/IMCA Hobby Stocks, Outlaw Late Models, 4-Bees, and both the Restricted and Open Micros.

Vancouver, Washington’s Arnie Case made a triumphant return to victory lane in the Street Stocks. It marked the second occasion that the three-time defending tack champion had bested the field and the first time since the early part of the season he has done so. Forest Grove’s Joey Tardio was second over Frank Elwess, of Portland, in third. Doug Pitsch, from Vancouver, Washington, recorded a fourth-place result over fifth finishing Craig Loomis, also from Vancouver.

Another Vancouver, Washington pilot returned to his winning ways, Austin Henderson. Henderson recorded his fifth win of the current campaign in the Pure Stocks/IMCA Hobby Stocks. It now puts him tied for the most wins of the year in the class. Joey Tardio, pulling double duty, was also second in this race while Portland’s Jacob Myers got third. Forest Grove veteran Kendall Lee ended his evening in fourth followed by David Weaver, from Portland, in fifth.

Newberg chauffeur Brian Winkler got the job done in Outlaw Late Model competition. Winkler scored his fourth triumph of 2019 and now has the most wins in the division. Salem’s Chris Mott put in a second-place finish with Sonny Modaff, of Battle Ground, Washington, in third. Mike Betker, from Jefferson, rounded up the finishing order with his fourth-place result.

Sandy’s Eddie Farness earned his first 4-Bee win of the season at Sunset Speedway Park. Farness is the ninth different driver to inhabit the winner’s circle in the division this year. “Crimson” Cody Skies, sailing out of Vancouver, Washington, brought his vessel into port in second with Ed Farness, also from Sandy, grabbing third. Fellow Vancouver, Washington pirates “Cutlass” Jones, and Captain Turnabout raided the additional top five positions being scored fourth and fifth respectively.

Arlington, Washington’s Devin Fisher became the most recent winner in Open Micro action at SSP. Fisher is the sixth different driver to hoist the winner’s trophy at the end of the night. Dundee pilot Justen McConville was the runner-up while Josh Thompson, from St. Helens, earned third. Alex Riesch, out of Mt. Angel, put in a respectable fourth-place effort over fifth finishing Jeff Little, from Deming Washington.

Keira Zylstra accumulated another big win in the Restricted Micro ranks. The Monroe, Washington youngster now has four wins to her credit. Macie Logsdon, of Mt. Vernon, Washington, crossed the wire second over Melo, Washington’s Cody Crawford, in third. Aberdeen, Washington driver Mason Dineen placed fourth while grabbing fifth would be Allen Schindler, from Canby.

Sunset Speedway Park is back to racing this Labor Day Weekend for the Doug Walters Classic on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday the 1st. Both nights feature IMCA Modifieds, Outlaw Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks/IMCA Hobby Stocks, 4-Bees, New Bees, and both divisions of the Micro Sprints. Sunday will have a sixty-seven-lap main event for the Outlaw Late Models with $777.00 to win while Saturday pays $577.00.

Ticket prices for both nights are $13.00 for Adults and Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Kids (5 & Under) are FREE. A Family Pass (Two Adults and up to four Youths (6-12)) is offered for $35.00 while Premium Seats are available for $25.00 each.
