Old School Racing's Tankersley Charges to Fourth-Place Finish on Slick Track in Mississippi

Inside Line Promotions – BYRAM, Miss. (Aug. 14, 2018) – Channin Tankersley made the most of a last-minute decision to head east for a race last Saturday.
Tankersley had planned on competing in an ASCS Gulf South Region event in his home state of Texas, but Mother Nature had a different idea for the Old School Racing team.
“We got rained out about 9 o’clock,” he said. “My dad called me a little later and told me to get ready because we’re racing in Mississippi. It took us about six and a half hours. We got there around 6 p.m. Luckily they didn’t really get started until 6:30 p.m.”
Tankersley ventured to Jackson Motor Speedway for an ASCS Mid-South Region event, which he began by advancing from seventh to fifth place during a heat race.
“We started out a little off in hot laps and the heat race,” he said. “We kept tuning on the car and it was really good in the A Main. We just started a little too far back to have a chance. We had really good speed.”
Tankersley charged from 12th to a fourth-place finish, which marked his seventh top five in his last eight races.
“On the start I was able to get a handful of positions,” he said. “We were flying really good around the top. That’s where we made most of our passes. We’d get a good run and slide someone here and there. The track was really technical. It was super slick and the cushion was on the wall all the way around. I slid for third place about eight times, but I couldn’t make the pass. I’d lose so much momentum on the exit he’d get by me.
“The tracks we’ve run on all year have been super heavy and fast. We haven’t had a good slick track. It was nice to learn a little.”
Tankersley is scheduled to return to ASCS Gulf South Region competition this Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas.
