Hagar Crowned King of the Wings Champion After ASCS Mid-South Victory

Inside Line Promotions – BYRAM, Miss. (Aug. 21, 2018) – Derek Hagar produced one of his strongest nights of the season on Aug. 11 when he won both a heat race and the main event during the King of the Wings race hosted by Jackson Motor Speedway.

The ASCS Mid-South Region show began with Hagar powering from sixth to the triumph during a heat race.

“We got lucky in the heat and the lead two cars took each other out,” he said. “We were up to second and I got by Terry Gray after that on the last lap to get the win. Our heat race was a feature with all the talented drivers. Starting sixth I thought it’d put us behind for the night. You have all those guys in front of you. They’re fast and hard to get by in eight laps. Our car was working good. It started out not looking good and in the blink of an eye everything turned around for us.”

Hagar pulled the No. 4 during the random feature redraw to start the A Main on the outside of the second row.

“I got to second on the first lap,” he said. “I was chasing one of my DHR Suspension customers, Dustin Gates. I got a good run on him and took the lead a few laps into it. I had to be patient in traffic. The track was really dusty. You had to be cautious yet protective, too. We had a late-race caution with seven or eight laps to go. Tim Crawley slid me in turns one and two and then I dropped underneath him and regained the lead going down the backstretch.”

The victory was Hagar’s fourth of the season and second with the ASCS Mid-South Region.

Hagar, who was off last weekend, will return to action this Saturday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., with the USCS Series.
