USAC SPRINTS HEAD WEST NOV. 4-5 WESTERN WORLD AT QUEEN CREEK

The 49th “Western World Championships” at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek are up next on the calendar for the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship as the series heads west for its final swing of the 2016 season.

The two-night program pairs the series with the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, marking the first-time ever the USAC National Sprints have visited the one-third mile dirt oval located about 40 miles southeast of Phoenix.

Brady Bacon continues to hold a commanding 233-point lead in the standings after his seventh-place finish in last Saturday night’s “Jim Hurtubise Classic” at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track, but his consistency has paid off handsomely this season with 31 “top-10” finishes in 36 starts.

Chris Windom of Canton, Ill, USAC’s most proficient driver of late, became only the second driver in the 17 runnings of the “Hurtubise Classic” to score multiple victories in the event, outdueling a determined Chad Boespflug throughout last Saturday’s 30-lapper.

The two traded the lead back and forth for most of the race before Windom finally took over with three laps to go and grabbed the checkered flag in his Baldwin Brothers Fox Paving/AMSOIL Maxim/Claxton Mopar. Boespflug was second ahead of Jerry Coons Jr., ProSource fast qualifier Chase Stockon and Justin Grant.

Bacon’s finish was rewarded with the KSE Hard Charger Award after he came from 17th starting spot to take seventh at the checkered flag.

Only five races remain on the 2016 calendar, the two at Queen Creek and the Nov. 10-11-12 “Budweiser Oval Nationals” at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
