Track Information

The Medford area has a long and storied history of racing going back many years. When the last track closed, the search was on for a new location. It was found at the Jackson County Sports Park in neighboring White City. John Skinner built the track and opened it in April of 1996. The clay oval track measures in at 3/10ths with banking that ensures side by side racing all the way around the race track. Skinner erected a state of the art scoring tower with a hospitality room for VIP sponsors, guests and media outlets.

The PA system was modeled after one of the better systems on the West Coast at Perris Auto Speedway in Southern California. The track also features a state of the art lighting system that helps make for some great night time racing under the lights. A spacious grandstand area that lines up along the entire front stretch enables the track to host some of the biggest events in the state, including big Sprint Car races, the Lon Skinner Memorial Modified race and the Dwarf Car Nationals.

Prior to the 2016 season, long time racing promoter Mike McCann signed a ten year lease to run the race track. McCann brings a reputation as a racer's promoter who is dedicated to putting on good shows for the fans. When Mike was running Riverside Speedway in Cottage Grove, Oregon, he received the Promoter Of The Year award from RPM Magazine at the Racing Promoter's Workshop in Reno, Nevada.

When the track opened in 1996, three divisions still racing here today, IMCA Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Mini Stocks, were a part of the program. In the early days, the Modifieds ran a wing on the cars. The SODCA Dwarf Cars also competed, and it wasn't long before a point series was kept at the track for them as well. Sprint Cars and Super 4's have also competed at the track through the years. Both divisions are back this year.

As the IMCA Modifieds have evolved, the IMCA Sport Mods were brought in to give drivers a more affordable entry into the this open wheel stock car class. The division is now in its fifth season. As the Mini Stocks have evolved, a Hornet class was added as a way to bring new drivers into the fold at an affordable cost. OTRO Hardtops are also on the 2016 schedule, and more good things are coming.

Next to the race track is a smaller one-eighth mile dirt oval track that was built for Go Karts and Micro Sprints. As the sport continues into the future, we are looking for more ways to bring new competitors into the fold. The Karts and Micros feature a mixture of kids of various ages and the young at heart in the various classes. Some of the talented drivers racing on the bigger track got their start on smaller tracks like the one at the Southern Oregon Speedway facility.

This year marks the 21st consecutive season of racing at Southern Oregon Speedway. Lots of good things are planned for this year with an eye towards the future. The goal is to create a bigger and better racing experience for the fans and competitors. There is nothing like a night with the family at Southern Oregon Speedway. Many great memories have been made at the race track, and life long friendships have been established here. Southern Oregon Speedway is proud to be a source of family oriented entertainment for the Jackson County community.
