Hanks Scores Sixth-Place Finish During Firecracker Shootout
Inside Line Promotions – LUBBOCK, Texas (July 3, 2018) – Brandon Hanks posted a sixth-place result last Saturday during his driving debut for Scott Brown and Terry Steward.
The action got underway at West Texas Raceway for the Firecracker Shootout on Friday, when Hanks finished fifth in a heat race before the remainder of the night rained out. He returned to the bullring the following night to wrap up the 305ci winged sprint car event.
“I really appreciate Scott, Terry and all of the Brown Family for giving me the chance to work with them,” he said. “That’s a really good car and some of the best equipment I’ve driven. For our first time working together and not really knowing each other it went well. They had a different car than I’ve ever ran. I couldn’t give them input on what to do with the car because they do things different than I do. I let them go off history. I think we did pretty good.”
Hanks maneuvered from fifth to third place in a heat race. He then drew the No. 7 to start the A Main on the inside of the fourth row.
“We missed it a little and was a bit too tight in the A Main,” he said. “The way the track was, it was slick to the top. Everyone was hammering around on top. We were all three or four car lengths off each other. Once we got in line I don’t think anyone passed anyone. It was a little tough of a track as far as passing went.”
Hanks gained a position to finish sixth, which was his ninth top 10 of the season.
“I was tickled with how things went,” he said. “They were happy, too. We all weren’t satisfied with sixth, but we did pretty well for the first time out.”
Hanks will return to action on Tuesday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., where he will compete in the 305ci winged sprint car division for Cody Miller.
