Carteret County Speedway Unveils Exciting 2022 Schedule
SWANSBORO, NC – Bobby Watson dreamed of having America’s Nicest Short Track and today his legacy is carried on by his good friend Bob Lowery and his tremendous crew of passionate short track enthusiasts.
There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the 2021 season when things kicked off in April. The nation was beginning to open up again after the COVID pandemic and, unbeknownst at the time, but the short track racing community in America would be hit with a crippling tire shortage.
Nonetheless, 2021 was successful for CCS. The fans were introduced to a handful of new series and events and those are expected to return this year.
The 2022 season will kick off on April 2nd with Late Models highlighting opening night. Late Models will have the spotlight seven times throughout the 2022 season with the debut of the Late Model “Big Money Series”. Six races during regular season competition and again in December with the return of the Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions. Late Models will be featured throughout the season in single races and a few twin feature events. Late Model competitors will battle all season long and culminate with the Race of Champions for over $85,000 in prize money including one of the richest championship funds in the Late Model world.
In addition to the Late Models returning, a fan favorite has also been added to the schedule for 2022. The Enduro was introduced this past season with a unique layout and we’re excited to announce that it will return four times in 2022 with its own mini-championship. The format will mostly remain the same: The track will be fixed with obstacles, making each race different, and halfway through the field will be flipped around for a reverse course on the track.
A handful of series will return to CCS for the 2022 season including the Carolina Pro Late Models, Southern Ground Pounders, and Allison Legacy Series. The SMART Modifieds will again return and be part of our Labor Day Classic doubleheader on September 3rd and 4th. The Carolina Pro Late Models are marked for July 2nd, the Southern Ground Pounders are down for May 29th, and the Allison Legacy Series will be in town on July 30th. Lastly, the Mid-Atlantic Street Stock Championship will visit our venue in 2022 as well, the dates for that event are being finalized.
Some other notable dates include August 13th for the East Coast Legends Throwdown, paying $3,000 to win. September 24th is slated for the Bobby Watson Memorial, a very special night at CCS, that will feature Late Models and six other weekly racing divisions. Our Annual Halloween Bash returns, this year on October 22nd.
The annual Mini-Stock Nationals is set to return on the weekend of November 12th. This event draws a massive crowd of Mini Stocks from around the country to compete for one of the top prizes in four-cylinder competition.
The Late Model dates, as mentioned above, are as follows: April 2nd, May 29th, June 25th, July 16th, Sept 4th, Sept 24th, and the weekend of December 10th.
Weekly racing will feature between five and seven divisions of racing action per night to guarantee an exciting program for race fans and an easier program for our racers. The schedule will include a spread amongst our divisions that include: Late Models, Chargers, Mini Stocks, UCAR, Street Stocks, Bombers, Legends, Super Trucks, Champ Karts, Mini Cup, and Enduro.
