Over $85,000 On the Line for Late Models at Carteret County Speedway in 2022

SWANSBORO, NC – After a successful big money late model event, the Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions, Carteret County Speedway received tremendous applause in the late model community and plans to take that wave of momentum straight into the 2022 season.

“We want to show the racing world that we are a top notch racing facility.” said track owner Bob Lowery talking about the Late Model championship for 2022 at CCS.

“Our Race of Champions late model event showcased that we can host a successful, clean, and an exciting big money late model event right here on the Emerald Coast. In 2022 we plan to go all out and promote one of the biggest seasons ever for local late model competitors and we look forward to a great season.”

The Late Model Big Money Series will pay a hefty $10,000 to the champion of the seven event championship. The Late Model championship will kick off on April 2nd with twin features, this will also be opening night for the speedway’s 2022 season. The next event will be May 29th, a 75 lap feature. Then on June 25th’s Shootout By The Sea, we’ll see another set of twin features for the Late Models. July 16th will host a 100 lap main event during the heat of the summer. Another twin feature night will make up the September 4th program and later that month on September 24th, the last regular season event for the Late Models will be a 100 lap main event at the Bobby Watson Memorial.

The champion of the series will be crowned at the conclusion of the Race of Champions, which returns for its second annual running, scheduled for December 10th and 11th. The race will again pay $10,000 to win and $1,000 to start and will include a practice day on Friday with racing for some weekly divisions on Saturday along with qualifying for the Late Models and the event will close out on Sunday afternoon with the Late Model and Legends main events.

The series will feature a unique points system to create an electric atmosphere and to keep drivers and fans engaged all the way until a champion is crowned in December. Each race will award full points, this goes for both twin features on a twin feature night. The winner will receive 10 points, each position down will receive one less point (ex: 1st. 10 points, 2nd. 9, 3rd. 8, etc), and 10th through last will receive 1 point.

A driver must compete in four regular season events (twin features count as one event) to be eligible for the championship fund. There will be one drop race for your worst finish but may not be used in place of an absence. Twin Features will award full points on both features making it possible for one driver to score 20 points one night if he/she wins both features. All drop races will be tallied after the final regular season event meaning that the Race of Champions can not be used as a drop race. This is done so that when the checkered flag falls on the Race of Champions, not only will we know the winner but we will know our 2022 Big Money Series Late Model champion at the same time.

Each Late Model event will feature single car qualifying, driver intros, random inverts (1-6 or 1-4 on twin features), and unique driver and event promotions.

The goal with the unique driver and event promotions is to get our fans engaged with our drivers. We want our fans to show up and know each name in the car and know their history. We want our fans to know the storylines and pick a side and be passionate about supporting their favorite driver. In the end, we want to promote our drivers as super stars.

While some of the details are being ironed out over the course of the off season, officials were excited to lay the groundwork out for a series and championship that will rewrite the history books at America’s Nicest Short Track. We look forward to seeing the Late Model drivers. We look forward to seeing our weekly division drivers and teams. Lastly, we look forward to seeing all of our wonderful fans and providing them with an exciting night of family entertainment all throughout the 2022 season.
