Scotty Thiel
Scotty Thiel – Takes the Win at Angell Park!
A three day race weekend was scheduled for the STM team along with the IRA Series but Friday night’s portion was canceled due to rain. The next stop to start the weekend out was at Wilmot Raceway where Scotty Thiel would go on to win the heat race but started 10th in the main and make his way up to the sixth position. He redeemed himself of Sunday at Angell Park Speedway where he would set QuickTime and go on to win the 30 lap main event from the third starting spot, taking home his second IRA win of the year and third win overall in 2018.
32 cars signed into Wilmot Raceway on Saturday evening with the IRA Series. Scotty was the 18th car out to qualify and after putting down a 13.001 lap time that would be third quick on the night. Heat race lineups would put Thiel to start on the outside second row (4th) for the 10 lap race. The green flag flew and Thiel worked the high side in turn one. He cut down low coming out of turn two and made it three wide for the lead coming down the backstretch and would slide his way into the lead coming out of turn four. He never looked back from there and would go on to win the heat race event which locked him into the redraw event. During the redraw, Scotty would get the number 10 pill which means he would start 10th in the 30 lap A-main event. Later on, the field would get set for the main event. Scotty would struggle a bit early but started to slowly pick his way forward as the race went on. He found himself in the top five with only 10 laps to go. Some rough parts of the track were messing up some cars all night long and Scotty hit a few of those rough spots which made his ignition switch loosen up and it shut the car off a few times. Luckily, the car kept alive and running but Thiel would fall back to the sixth position with only a few laps to go. He would go on to cross the finish line in the sixth position. “It was an alright night I guess I would say. We’ve been struggling the last few weeks so to finally just finish a main event feels pretty good. I think we had a better car than sixth but the track was difficult tonight for sure. We’ll move onto Angell Park tomorrow.” Thiel stated after the event.
A very warm Sunday brought the team to the historic Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI. 24 cars were in attendance and Scotty would be the 21st car out to qualify. He put down a 12.377 lap time which was Quick Time on the night! That would place him to start fourth in the ten lap heat race again. The track stayed narrow for the early races of the night which made for passing to be pretty limited. The field took the green flag and they charged into turn one and two. Scotty moved into the third position down the backstretch and would hold that position for all ten laps but still would make the redraw with the fast time qualifying efforts. At the redraw, Thiel would draw the number three starting spot for the 30 lap A-main. The crew went to work to make some last minute changes to the car and get ready for the main event. The field would go on to take the green flag. The first two attempts at starting the race were shortly ended as a few drivers were involved in some wrecks. The third attempt would finally get the field under way. Scotty charged into the second spot coming out of turn four to complete the first lap and would not let the leader get far away. A close battle for the lead went on for the first half of the race. A mid race caution would get the field bunched back up and restart the race. Scotty was able to capitalize on the restart and slide his way into the lead going into turn one. He completed the pass and charged forward. He built up a little bit of a lead and started to proceed his way into lap traffic. A late race bobble would get Thiel over the cushion in turn two but he was able to recover from that and hold on to the lead with only three laps to go. The white flag flew and Thiel would be able to hold on and take the checkered flag and Win the 30 lap event! During the victory lane celebrations, Scotty and his wife, who are expecting their first child in October, would find out the gender of the baby by shooting confetti cannons. The crowd counted down and when the cannons launched it poured out Blue confetti! “Man this one feels really good. We struggled the last few weeks and finally finished a main last night but coming out here and getting the win was much needed. My guys worked super hard to get us here and I know it’s been rough for them and myself the last few weeks. I cannot thank our partners enough for their support and everyone involved on this team. To win on Father’s Day is special enough but to also find out the gender of our baby is pretty cool as well. My wife put the pressure on me to go win and that was the only way we were going to be able to find out, so we got that one out of the way!” Stated an excited Thiel after the race.
Next on tap for racing is this coming Friday night. Scotty will be racing a 360 for Sippel Racin at Spring Lake Speedway in Unity, WI with the MSA. Then, Saturday night will bring the STM team to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the World of Outlaws!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
