World of Outlaws Race in El Paso
I made the decision at the end of last season to try my hand at dirt racing. My first couple of races at the end of last season proved to be highly successful so my Crew (Bobby Jackson) and I decided we were going to try for the Dirt Championship. There is something about racing dirt. An adrenaline that gets your heart pumping, the sliding on the track. It's just plain fun so I am excited to see where this goes this season.
With that being said yesterday was an amazing opportunity to race during the same race as the World of Outlaws. Getting to be on the same track as one of my idols Steve Kinser was a great opportunity, and one that I won't soon forget.
I had a great start in the heat race starting in 2nd position and lead the entire race. So it set me up for a 4th place start in the main. As I was strapping in for the main I was confident that this was going to be a great race. Racing with the 77 of CJ Husley is always a challenge and due to the inversion that was going to put CJ on the pole! I had my work cut out for me! Had it not been for a Red flag due to a car tipping over in a spin I wouldn't have been able to challenge CJ for the win. The red flag put me in the 2nd position for the restart with 3 laps to go. After a short battle with the 77 and 01 I was able to take the lead for the win on the last lap. Winning is always a highlight of the race, but mine got even better by the fans that stopped by my trailer to say Hi and for me to sign autographs, but going down to the front stretch with the Outlaws and other winners of the night made my day. Being able to meet and talk with my Idol Steve Kinser is something that I will always remember. All the other Outlaw drivers were also great to talk with. This is a great start to this new adventure into dirt racing, and can't wait till the next race.
