Tag World Championship
Kyle Donahue says good bye to racing Tag 60 Cadet. On October 8th Kyle competed in his last Tag 60 Cadet race at New Castle Motorsports Park in the 2011 Tag World Championship. He isn’t quitting, he will be too old to race that class next year. Kyle had an amazing race and his racing skills were put to the test. After shaking down the kart during a full day of practice on Friday we thought we were good for Saturday. Saturday morning started off with the usual prerace activities and practice. During practice a late comer showed with two karts for the Tag 60 class. The two karts were fast too. The leader was clicking off times 1.2 seconds faster than our best and the other one was almost a second faster. Kyle was a little worried at first but as usual once he put on his helmet it was all business. During the heat race, after starting second, it was clear that he was one of the best drivers on the track but he was being out motored on the long New Castle straight away by two other karts. Kyle was now ready for the main event and was starting in third on the inside. The green flag dropped and Kyle quickly moved into second but the leader was checking out. After just a few laps the leader was 5-6 seconds in the lead but much to our surprise he broke a chain and got off the track. Kyle was the new race leader and had a 5 kart lead on second place. He could extend his lead on the road course section but had to give it all back on the straight away. Several times during the race Kyle exchanged places for the lead but managed to get it back on the road course. Amazing as it was even though Kyle was leading most of the race the second place kart was clicking off laps 6-8 tenths faster. With one lap to go Kyle was passed on the straight away and even with a killer cross-over move he was beat by a few inches at the line. My opinion, it was the most exciting race of the day. Congrats to Kyle for his second place finish in the Tag World Championship.
