Runner-up finish in Spring Fling prelim at Cedar County

Friday night found Spencer Diercks in action at Cedar County Raceway (Tipton, Iowa) competing in the IMCA Modified ranks for the Spring Fling.

Drawing 20 Modifieds for the two-day event, Diercks’ fifth-to-third run in his heat placed him on the third row for the feature. Advancing forward four spots in the 25-lap opener, Spencer raced to a second-place finish. He trailed Jeff Larson to the checkers with Brandon Schmitt rounding out the podium.

On Saturday, Spencer won by more than a two-second margin in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. With the redraw positioning him fourth on the starting grid for the $2,000-to-win Spring Fling finale, Diercks was an early retiree from the 30-lapper on the seventh circuit.
