Kyle Schuett Scores Career-Best Outlaws Finish to Cap Busy Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (July 14, 2020) – A career-best World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series finish at Terre Haute Action Track on Sunday night capped a busy three-day racing weekend for Kyle Schuett.
“Terre Haute was my first half-mile track in a sprint car,” he said. “The speed definitely took some getting used to. I was moving my arms way too much in qualifying and probably gave up half a second each lap.
“The heat race was kind of ‘where you start is where you finish.’ There was no reason to push the issue in the heat race because we were all in the A Main, anyway.”
Schuett, who qualified 21st and placed seventh in a heat race, rolled off 21st in the evening’s main event. He gained a handful of positions to finish 16th.
“The feature was just about running all the laps because there were a lot of wrecks and cautions, including a fuel stop,” he said. “I just tried to stay out of trouble and worked on my driving.”
Schuett shook off some rust from a month-long absence from the track on Friday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.
“We were just off all night,” said Schuett, who eventually finished eighth in the Last Chance Showdown. “We missed the gear in qualifying and I could tell I was off after being out of the car for about a month. It was a cowboy-up, up-on-the-wheel track.
“I finally started making some decent laps in the B Main and started getting my rhythm down. But with the Outlaws, you have to be on point pretty much starting with hot laps in order to do well.”
Schuett followed the Outlaws to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., on Saturday. He found some speed after qualifying, but saw his night end early in the A Main.
“Wilmot was different than usual,” he said. “It’s usually slick, even for qualifying. But that night it was tacky with a cushion. Our car was tight in qualifying. We kicked ourselves for that because we loosened the car after qualifying and went from ninth to seventh in our heat race, missing the transfer by one position.”
Following a first lap red flag, Schuett restarted third in the Last Chance Showdown.
“The top was definitely the lane to be in and I got shuffled back to fifth before I was able to get there,” he said. “Then I was able to get around a couple of cars to finish third and transfer to the A Main.”
Schuett’s main event run was short-lived after starting 21st.
“I was racing with a guy on the second lap,” he said. “I went up a little bit and he came down a bit and my car got tight with a full load of fuel. I got my right front into his left rear and it spun me and tipped me on my side. There was too much damage in the two minutes that we had in the work area so that ended our night.”
