Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 11, 2020) – Dominic Scelzi highlighted the World of Outlaws Last Call with a 19th-place result last Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
The two-day World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series marked Scelzi’s final weekend as a fill-in driver for Roth Motorsports.
“I was thankful to be able to drive the car the last few nights of the season,” he said. “The results weren’t what we hoped for, but at the end of the day it was an honor to have those guys trust us to go back there and finish the season.”
The weekend began on Friday with Scelzi qualifying 14th quickest in his group. He then advanced a position to place sixth in a heat race before picking up two spots in the Last Chance Showdown to end third, which earned a transfer into the back of the A Main.
“We didn’t qualify very good and at the end of the day that’s the biggest piece,” he said. “The car rolled around there nice, but we didn’t have the mile per hour we needed. We snuck in on the first night and drove up to 15th, but we gained two inches of stagger midway through the race, which really freed the car up. At that point I decided to roll the bottom.”
Scelzi was credited with a 19th-place result.
The weekend concluded on Saturday with Scelzi timing in 16th quickest in his group. He picked up two positions in his heat race to end sixth. The team used a provisional to tag the rear of the field in the A Main after a seventh-place showing in the Last Chance Showdown.
“We passed a couple of guys in the heat, but didn’t pass anybody in the B Main,” he said. “We took a provisional, but I couldn’t see anything in the feature. I was just trying to get through it without any trouble.”
Scelzi gained a handful of positions to end 21st.
