Walter aims to regroup after tough Plymouth IRA outing

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 22, 2020 – Josh Walter and members of the Plymouth, Wis.-based Torque Racing team hoped some local knowledge and past success would be just what the doctor ordered as they joined the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 18.

Walter was one of a total of 23 IRA 410 Sprint Car teams to check in for the all-Sprint Car event, which was held in conjunction with the Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series and IRA Lightning Sprints.

Competing at his hometown track, the night got off to a rocky start for Walter as he drifted high in turn two and made contact with the backstretch wall on his first of two qualifying laps. The 15th-year driver recovered on the second qualifying circuit to record a lap of 13.118 seconds, which was good for 20th in the 23-car field.

“We had another awful night,” Walter said. “The car was a bit bent after the incidents we had at our previous race at 141 Speedway on July 5th. We tried something to compensate set-up wise and the car was just too tight in qualifying.”

Walter lined up seventh in the second IRA heat race and held his position throughout the 10-lap event.

“We were able to make some more adjustments to get the car to get around the track better in the heat race,” Walter.

In the 30-lap IRA A main, Josh rolled off 20th and quickly moved up to the high groove to advance to 18th on lap 3. The first yellow flag appeared on lap 17 when IRA rookie Jack Routson spun in turn two.

On the restart, Walter moved up two more spots to 15th and continued to work his way gradually through the field when Routson spun again in turn four on lap 20.

As the yellow was displayed, Walter caught the cushion and spun to stop in turn two. The incident was enough to end Walter’s night as he was credited with a 20th-place finish in a race won by Bill Balog.

“For feature time, we were able to adjust the car further to compensate for the bent chassis,” Walter said. “We were making gains until a caution came out and I needed to lift for the yellow when I was running the cushion.

“Right as I lifted for the yellow, my right rear tire dug into the cushion and threw the car toward the wall, ending our night,” he said.

After the tough outing at Plymouth, Walter and the Torque Racing team will be taking some time to regroup and secure a new chassis before scheduling a return to the track.

“We plan to get a new chassis and get back on the track yet this summer,” Walter said. “We will be going through every component of the car with a fine tooth comb and checking that there are no engine or driveline issues before we get back out. We will be sure to let everyone know through our Torque Racing social media pages on Facebook and Twitter as soon as we know when and where we plan to return.”

Torque Racing Sponsor Showcase – Sheboygan by Owner, Home Transitions

Sheboygan by Owner was created in 2003 to give sellers of real estate in Sheboygan, Calumet and Manitowoc Counites an avenue to sell their own home, while having a presence on the internet and access to real estate partners at a low flat fee rate, which allows them to keep more money in their own pockets.

Sheboygan by Owner also gives buyers a quick glance at “for sale by owner” properties at the convenience of their homes/phones without having to call on every home they drive by or hear about.

“Homebuyers can search the web to see what the homes have to offer, and then call on only the ones they have an interest in, saving them both time and money,” said Allison Smith of Sheboygan by Owner.

Smith is thrilled to be involved with sponsoring Josh Walter and Torque Racing for the 2020 racing season.

“This a great opportunity to both help Josh and his racing team and to have another avenue to promote our business,” Smith said.

“Home Transitions works best on referrals and the goal is to make the home buying and selling transition go smoothly for all parties,” Smith said.
