Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 9, 2020) – Kerry Madsen posted his 16th top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where he recorded a sixth-place showing.
The Killer Instinct Crossbows sponsored Big Game Motorsports driver was in contention for a top-five finish both nights at the high-banked oval. Madsen qualified second quickest and won a heat race both Saturday and Sunday. He placed sixth in the dash on Saturday to line up on the outside of the third row for the A Main.
“The first night was looking really good, but the track took rubber and everyone ended up blowing a tire,” he said. “I thought we were going to get lucky. We put another one on and were coming through the field. Then something happened on a restart and there was an accordion effect. We got into the back of someone and ended up flattening the right front tire.”
Madsen was credited with a 17th-place finish following his second incident of the feature.
A third-place run in the dash on Sunday lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“We got up to second and then we dropped back to third,” he said. “There were a lot of restarts. We had a good race car. It was a deal where we never got a good restart and seemed to lose a spot every time. At the end of the day you feel like if you’d done a little better job you could have been up the scale a little better. With those double-file restarts, sometimes it just doesn’t work out.”
Madsen ended with a sixth-place result, which was his 28th overall top 10 this year.
The team is heading east to tackle the Tuscarora 50 this Thursday through Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.
“Hopefully the first two nights we can get some good laps in and fine-tune ourselves and our car to be good on the final night,” Madsen said.
The team earned a pair of top fives during the event in 2017.
