Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (Sept. 15, 2020) – Misfortune hampered Sides Motorsports last weekend during the Boot Hill Showdown at Dodge City Raceway Park.

The team had two cars competing during the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader with Tim Kaeding joining team owner Jason Sides.

Kaeding qualified fourth quickest, placed second in a heat race and won the dash to garner the pole position for the A Main on Friday.

“He was pretty damn good; qualified decent, made the dash and won the dash,” Sides said. “On the start Jacob (Allen) got by him and he ran second for a while. He said on one of the restarts someone came in and body slammed him and took him to the wall. That lost him a spot or two. We had a little miscommunication on how much fuel to put in it and he ran out of fuel with a few laps to go running sixth.”

Kaeding followed the 18th-place outing up by timing in seventh quickest on Saturday. He finished third in a heat race to miss making the dash by only one position. That lined him up seventh for the main event.

“I’m not sure if he ran over something,” Sides said. “The right rear tire was low on pressure. It got on the sidewall and ripped the sidewall out of it. He was running seventh at that time. It sucks because he could have had a top 10 both nights.”

Kaeding rebounded from the problem to place 11th.

Sides improved his results from Friday to Saturday, qualifying ninth quickest and finishing fourth in a heat race before ending the night 13th in the main event.

“The track was heavy and wet without much passing on Friday, even later in the night when we got into the feature,” he said. “The modifieds seemed like they churned it up to make it wetter than it was in the heat races. We were a little tight every time we had a restart. We got to 12th and had a restart on the outside. We ran up the track and lost two spots. The next time we had a restart the same thing happened and we finished 14th.

“We weren’t bad on Saturday, but when you’re that far back in traffic everything seems so much more crucial to get a better start. You get behind someone and it wants to take off on you on the first corner. But you have to get what you can on the starts because once you get strung out that’s all there is.”

Sides is heading south this weekend to compete on Friday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the Texas Outlaw Nationals.

“I look forward to Lawton,” he said. “I haven’t been there in 20 years. I know I ran some ASCS races there from 1996 to 2000. Watching the All Star race there earlier this year it looked like they had a good race. And it’s always a fun time at Devil’s Bowl. It’s a fun track. It really picks up speed in turns three and four. It’s more technical in turns one and two.”
