Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (Sept. 4, 2017) – Sammy Swindell is Pennsylvania bound in search of the $50,000 payday that Port Royal Speedway is offering to the winner of this weekend’s Tuscarora 50.

Swindell will drive for Coldren Motorsports on Friday and Saturday at the half-mile oval in Port Royal during the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event.

Swindell spent a weekend racing with the team in Central Pennsylvania last month and earned a runner-up position to highlight a four-race stint. He enters this weekend with one win, four podiums and five top 10s during seven All Star starts this season.

“We’ve had some really good runs,” he said. “If everything plays into our hand I think we have a chance to win this weekend.”

Swindell is riding momentum from last weekend’s All Star event at Attica Raceway Park on Saturday when he drove for Swindell Speed Lab supported Kevin Swindell Racing.

“The car was really good pretty quick,” he said. “We went out a bit later (for qualifying) and the track developed a curb that a lot of guys were having trouble with. I was a little bit conservative trying not to make a mistake, but to be as close as I could. We were 16 hundredths off fast time. There was probably enough there with being on the cautious side, but it was still good enough.”

Swindell qualified ninth quickest overall, which lined him up on the outside of the front row for a heat race. He won the heat before rallying from seventh to fifth place in the second heat race.

“They inverted eight cars for the second one,” he said. “I was able to get in a good heat race to run both of the heats. The second one I started on the inside and the faster lane was around the top. I got behind one car and he missed the bottom in turns one and two, but didn’t leave enough room for me to pass. I thought maybe he’d miss on the next end and that didn’t happen. I was able to get around on the outside and then we passed another car. It worked out ok for us. It put us starting in the sixth spot for the A Main.”

The qualifying and heat race performances ranked Swindell sixth in overall points and lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“We had the car where we were tight on the entry, loose in the middle and tight off,” he said. “We were having a little trouble with a full fuel load and I was picking the front tires up too easy.

“We maintained our spot there around fourth and fifth for the first third or half of the race. I struggled when we’d have a long run. We were losing too much air in the right rear tire and it’d make the car tight on entry. When we had a red we made a couple of adjustments, but still didn’t quite hit exactly on what we needed. I messed up the restart and a couple of guys slid me.”

Swindell lost a handful of positions during the second half of the main event, but he hung on for a ninth-place result.

“It was a good night,” he said. “We got through everything pretty easy. The only bad thing is we broke a lifter coming to the checkered so that ended our weekend early.”

Swindell heads to Port Royal Speedway this weekend seeking his first career win at the track.
