Proctor Captures Four Cylinder Nationals Victory

Mother Nature was smiling down today as drivers, crews, staff & fans filed into County Line Raceway for the 2nd Annual Four Cylinder Nationals. After running 2 laps of qualifying each & 5 heat races, the fields were set both the Super Stock 4 Cylinder 40 lap $2000 to win feature & the Pure Stock 4 Cylinder 25 lap $500 to win feature. Also on the schedule the 270 & 600 Sprints and the 4 Cylinder Powder Puff races.

Up first, the 25 lap Pure Stock 4 feature with Gary Dillon, picking up the $25 Pole Award provided Quality Construction & Renovation out of Elm City, on the front row. Lap 1 would see a melee in two different areas of the track! Melee #1 took place at the opening over in turn 2 and involved 4 cars, then over on the backstretch, right off of turn 2, Melee #2 involved another 3 cars! Back green with Gary Dillon, JP Brantley, Lee Hardie, Gary Whitley & Robby Causby out front. With half of the laps complete in this 25 lap feature, Gary Dillon continued to lead JP Brantley Lee Hardie, Gary Whitley & Robby Causby. Lap 16 would see a dreaded late race caution. Single file restart this time with Dillon leading Brantley, Hardie, Whitley & Hunter Byrd. (Robby Causby suffered a flat tire during the caution and had to pit to change it. He did return to the field, just at the tail end). Bringing home the win for the 2nd year in a row, Gary Dillon. He was followed by JP Brantley, Lee Hardie, Gary Whitley & Robby Causby.

After a 10 lap Dash for Cash for the 600 Sprints, in which Dale Arnold won, we were ready for the Main Event.

26 Super Stock 4's lined up for 40 laps & a $2000 paycheck with defending winner Mark Boykin on the pole & Jason Horne on the outside. Earlier in the evening, Eric Hill picked up the $100 LocalRaceChat.com Fast Qualifier award, but after 3 heat races, Mark Boykin would lead the field to green. After a 4 wide salute to the fans, we were ready to go racin! After a drag race down the front stretch, Jason Horne would come out in front of the field followed by Mark Boykin, Hunter Bailey, James Manning & Austin Holcombe. Lap 1 would see a spin over in turn 4 bringing out the caution. Lining up double file for the restart, Jason Horne got a great start over Mark Boykin, as did Hunter Bailey. Bailey moved up to 2nd spot as Boykin slipped to 3rd. James Manning & Austin Holcombe rounded out the top 5. Caution again on lap 2 as 2 cars got together on the backstretch. Back green, Horne leading Bailey, Boykin, Manning & Holcombe. Another melee on the backstretch involving 6 cars brought the caution again, still lap 2. Green flag again, Horne leading Bailey, Boykin, Manning & Holcombe. Lap 6 would see the leader catching the tail of the field, as Austin Holcombe mounted a challenge on Manning for that 4th spot. Lap 8 would see the caution out again for a solo spin in turn 4. Lining up double file, we were ready to see the green flag drop once again. Horne leads Bailey, Boykin, Manning & Holcombe. Lap 10 would see the caution out for 3rd place Mark Boykin. Boykin would suffer a flat tire bringing him down the hot pit for a tire change by his crew. Austin Larrison would also come down the hot pit as well. With everyone back out & lined up, Jason Horne lead the field to green. Hunter Bailey, James Manning, Austin Holcombe and Gary Thiede rounded out the top 5. Thiede would make the move on the high side for one entire lap trying to take spots from the 3rd & 4th place cars. He would bobble in turn 1 and get into the wall off of turn 2 causing him to slip back a few spots. Holcombe would get around Manning to take over 3rd spot. Lap 17 would see Holcombe retreat to the pits with some sort of a mechanical failure. Back green with a hard battle for the lead! From 17th spot, Dustin O'Neal would take the lead from Jason Horne! Hunter Bailey fell back to 5th as John Proctor moved up into the top 5. Whew, folks, if you weren't here to see it, you missed a great battle! Gary Thiede would get in the mix and take the lead at lap 27, right before the competition caution. As it stands right now, Gary Thiede leads Dustin O'Neal, Jason Horne, John Proctor, Hunter Bailey, Mark Boykin, Damien Bryant, James Manning, Brian Medlin & Jesse Duke. Back green with Gary Thiede leading John Proctor, Hunter Bailey, Mark Boykin & Damien Bryant. Thiede stretched out to about a 10 car length lead over John Proctor when the caution came out again on lap 37. Back green with 3 to go, Thiede, Proctor, Bailey, Boykin & D. O'Neal your top 5. Dustin O'Neal would get around Boykin to take over 4th spot. Coming to the checkers it would be Gary Thiede, John Proctor, Hunter Bailey, Dustin O'Neal & Mark Boykin. After going through the tech inspections required by the track, John Proctor was declared your winner! Congratulations John!

Up next, the Victor May & Rayford Chamblee Memorial Dash For Cash. Pulling 10 cars from the feature event, we inverted them & let them go all out for 10 laps. Brian Medlin made it 3 wide going into turn 1 as they all scrambled for the lead. Eric Hill would be your leader of lap 1 but lap 4 would see him suffer some issue that would slow him allowing Mark Boykin to take the point. Hunter Bailey would take over 2nd, but would challenge Boykin for the lead. Jason Horne held onto 3rd, Glenn Bottoms 4th & James Manning 5th. Horne would take over 2nd spot from Bailey on lap 7 as this was a 3 car battle right now. Horne, who started tenth, would take the lead at the line on lap 9 and take the win. WOW. That was an awesome 10 lap shootout!!

Our final event, the 4 cylinder Powder Puff race would see the ladies get their chance to battle it out. Tonya King & Angie Vick would put on a spectacular battle for the lead on the white flag lap, with Angie getting around Tonya, only to see Tonya rally back coming out of turn 4 to bring home the checkers! She was met in Victory Lane by her dad, Randy, as well as member's of Victor's & Rayford's family.
