Stremme & Cook Take Friday Night Dash for the Kids Wins

Night 2 of the 6th Annual Race For The Kids came upon us with some very cold temps, but that couldn't deter the County Line Raceway drivers, fans, crews & staff. With a total of 75 cars in attendance, it was sure to be an exciting night!
After a round of qualifying, Chris Ferguson was the fastest overall with a time of 14.143. Lining up for 4 heat races, Chris Ferguson would lead the first heat to the green. Ferguson jumped out to a great lead over Kyle Pierce, Christian Joyner, Boom Briggs & Shawn Sewell. With 5 laps in the books, Chris Ferguson was on a rail, wheeling that 22 Longhorn Chassis around County Line Raceway  with an average speed of 95 mph. Chris Ferguson would bring home the win & the top spot for tomorrow nights feature event.
The second heat would see Casey Roberts bringing them to the green. Three wide going into turn 2, wow! Chris Garnes, Brain Ligon & Michael Batten would make it out of turn 2, but Ligon did get a little bit of the wall allowing Batten to sweep into 3rd spot. Taking the top 4 finishers, these guys were going wide open for each position. Christian Thomas would bring out the caution with a spin in turn 4 on lap 1, and after going back green Brian Ligon would make contact with Michael Batten on the backstretch causing him to get into the wall. After discovering a possible broken tie rod, Batten was towed to the pits. Back green with Casey Roberts, Chris Garnes, Jeff Smith & Brian Ligon looking to transfer. Jeff Smith would challenge Garnes for the 2nd spot as the laps wound down, pulling along side & running door to door and finally with 1 to go, Smith would swoop around & take that 2nd spot. As the checkered flag fell, Casey Roberts would bring home the heat race win.
Our third heat would see Dennis "Rambo" Franklin bring them to the green for 10 laps to set the field for tomorrow's feature event. Rambo would lead lap 1 followed by Casey Barrow, Jason Covert & Doug Eck the top 4. Ray tucker would find some serious speed coming off of turn 2 and coming down the backstretch. Brandon Ifft would spin in the center of turn 2 ringing out the caution on lap 1, then again on lap 2 on the front stretch to bring out the first & second cautions of this heat race. Back green with Rambo hard on the gas out of 4 to take the green. Cross over moves & slingshot moves dotted this field as these drivers gave everything they had to try and make the transfer spot. Ray Tucker was battling Eck hard for that 4th place position, the transfer spot, but could not complete the pass. Tucker would go to the B Main scheduled for tomorrow, while Rambo took the win & guaranteed his starting spot tomorrow night.
The final Ultimate Super Late Models heat race would see two strong County Line competitors Russell Erwin & Dustin Mitchell on the front row. Erwin & Mitchell would drag race into turn 1 followed by Dan Stone & Derrick Francis, but Dan Stone decided to make it interesting when he made it 3 wide on lap 2 for the lead!! Mitchell would shoot out front followed by Erwin, Stone & Francis. Anthony Sanders & Kevin Wilson would have a dust up on the backstretch when Sanders popped the wall & Wilson had no where to go. Back green with 2 complete, Dustin Mitchell leading Russell Erwin, Dan Stone & Derrick Francis. Side by side for the lead, Erwin takes over the top spot from Mitchell. Dan Stone was on the move making up ground on Mitchell to try and take over 2nd spot. Derrick Francis held on to the 4th spot the transfer spot as we came to two to go. Russell Erwin would take the win to put him in a 4th starting spot tomorrow night.
Up next, the 1st of 2 Twin 25 lap dashes for the Open Wheel Modifieds. With David Stremme & Chris Parker on the front row. Chris Parker would shoot out front followed by David Stremme, Shon Flannery, Derrick Ramey & Ryan Toole. Lap 1 would see Kyle Peterson go around in turn 4 to bring out the caution. Back green with Parker leading Stremme, Ramey, Flannery & Toole. Solo spin by Walt Mayabb would bring out the caution again on lap 2. Back green with Parker still out front. Unfortunately, lap 2 would immediately go back under caution as Gary Dillon spun over in turn 3. Green flag, Parker leading Stremme, Ramey, Flannery & Toole. Lap 8 would see a hard wreck in turn 3 when the 20 of Stephen Quade spun around, facing oncoming traffic, when Walt Mayabb would come off the backstretch and hit him pretty much head on. Luckily both would be ok, but we would be under red flag for a while to get things cleaned up. Back green with Parker leading Stremme, Ramey, Flannery & Toole. Lap 10 would see the leader, Chris Parker would slow drastically on the backstretch bringing out the caution. It appeared to be a mechanical failure as he motioned for a push truck to come assist him to the pits. This would give the lead to David Stremme right before we reached the half way mark. Green flag with Stremme leading Ramey, Flannery, Toole & Patrick Lyon. Lap 20 would see the caution come out for debris over in turn 4, which was not surprising considering the beating and banging these cars were doing off the walls around County Line. David Stremme would bring home the 1st H & R Block Twin 25 $750 to win modified dashes.
The final feature of the night, the 2nd Twin 25 lap Dash presented by H & R Block would see KC Burdette & Taylor Cook on the front row. Cook would shoot out to the lead quickly, bringing Russell Erwin with him. KC Burdette would fall to 3rd, held onto 4th & Max McLaughlin rounded out the top 5. Caution lap 7 when the 11 of Eric Bentley went around in turn 4. Back green with Cook leading Erwin, Burdette, Quade & McLaughlin your top 5. Lap 14 would see the caution again for a few cars that seemed to lose power or suffer flat tires & need to exit the track. Back green with no change in the top 5. Eric Bentley would bring the caution out again on lap 16. Fortunately, this was a quickie yellow, so we were back green quickly with Cook leading the field to the restart. Erwin would make the attempt to get around Cook but unfortunately couldn't make it stick. Taylor Cook would bring home the 2nd H & R Block Twin 25 $750 to win modified dash.
