Wilson Garners Hard Charger Award at Calistoga to Close West Coast Swing

Inside Line Promotions – CALISTOGA, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2018) – Greg Wilson capped the final West Coast Swing of the season by earning the Hard Charger Award last Saturday at Calistoga Speedway.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels sponsored team gained a handful of positions on the half-mile oval to finish 18th, which wasn’t the result he hoped for but was an improvement on the previous night during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader.

“We’ve been making progress throughout the last couple of months so it was great to see definite progress last week in California,” he said. “We want to get better results and it’s certainly what we’re working toward, but it’s a great feeling to see everything improving.”

Wilson also competed last Wednesday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., during the 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA. Unfortunately, qualifying buried him in both a heat race and the Last Chance Showdown and Wilson came up just short of transferring into the A Main.

“We’ve run really well at Placerville the last couple of seasons, but this year we didn’t get qualified as well as we needed to,” he said. “That can make all the difference between a great night and a tough night. It’s hard to start behind so many fast cars, especially on a tight track where passing is at a premium, and expect to drive through the field.”

Next up for Wilson and the World of Outlaws is one of Wilson’s favorite tracks – Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday for the BeFour the Crowns Showdown. Wilson recorded his season-best result of second – after starting 14th – at the half-mile oval earlier this season.

“We have a lot of laps and experience at Eldora so it’s definitely one of the favorites,” he said. “Our charge from mid-pack up to second place a couple of months ago was a great feeling and we’re looking to put together another strong performance that is one position better.”

The weekend will conclude on Saturday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the Commonwealth Clash.
