General Rules for ,6 and v8 DEMO DERBY
The general rules as well as the car rules are developed with driver’s safety as the number one concern. We do admit that demos are a dangerous sport and Crash n Bash Promotions assumes no liability in the result of injury from competing in this event.
1.
These rules are developed with the cost of car construction in mind. The cars are to be constructed according to the rules. If certain items are not specified, it doesn’t mean it is legal. The officials decision will be final, so call before you do something that you don’t understand. The sport of demolition derbies has grown from a backyard fun activity, to a hardcore profession for some people. It is in our intent at Crash n Bash to keep the playing field fair so that local people can still compete and have fun.

All cars must be on grounds one-hour before event to be inspected. Any cars arriving late will not be eligible to compete unless prior arrangements have been made. For derbies that require pre- registration, cars must be pre-entered by 5:00 pm by the day of the event. All cars must be removed by 12:00 noon the following day or they will become the property of the local salvage yard.

The driver must be at least 14 years old to drive, unless the track board allows younger drivers. You must be able to prove age upon request to drive, or have a notarized document signed by a parent or guardian stating that parents assume all risks. No one under the age of 14 will be able to compete unless approved by Race Director.

Approved racing helmets must be worn at all times. Goggles or a face shield, fire suit or long sleeve shirt must be worn. Long pants and closed tow shoes are mandatory. No shorts allowed. If a driver removes his/her helmet while the event is taking place they will forfeit all winnings and be disqualified for the night.

Any unsportsmanlike conduct by the driver or the crew will cause your car to be disqualified. The official's decision will be final.
6.
No liquor or intoxicating beverages allowed in pit area. Possession of alcohol or drugs in pits will result in disqualification for your car.
7.
Drivers meeting will be held before the event is to start, to explain rules and flags. Any car protest must be made at this time. All drivers must attend.
8.
A driver that is disqualified in the heat race for sandbagging or an intentional door hit, will not be allowed to compete anymore that evening.
9.
The purpose of the derby is to provide entertainment for the spectators. Anyone not complying with the rules will be barred from the event.
10.
It is mandatory for everyone entering into the pits to purchase a pit pass.
11.
If a car is found illegal, no entries will be refunded. Cars should be brought legal. Not having a set of rules is not our fault. The track or promoter reserves the right to approve or reject any entries. Cars will be subject to inspection after event
12.
The driver is the only person allowed around the car while their car is being inspected. Cars will be disqualified if rule is not followed.
IMPORTANT: PREPARATION OF CAR
Cars are to be constructed according to the rules. We have always mandated a fair playing field and this year specific measurements have been adapted to several areas of the rules. Derby cars just like race cars must be built to the rules.
1.
At Crash n Bash derbies, no trucks, vans, ambulances, jeeps, carry-alls, limousines, 4-wheel drivers, checker cabs, or Chrysler imperials can compete. No Chrysler bodies on imperial frames. All cars that want to race in the Demo Derby will be allowed 6cyl and v8 all run together.

FRAMES: Front frame seams may be welded from bumper to front of A-frame topside only.
Weld on front of frame anywhere else will cause car to be disqualified. On previously ran BENT cars only the frame can be patched. A patch is considered 1/4 in. steel 4in.x 6in. You are allowed four patches. Rear humps may be plated with 1/4 by 22 in. plate cut to contour of frame and centered on hump. Body mount holes may be covered with up to 1/4 in. 3x3 plates, top side only. You may tilt frames by cutting and re welding NO ADDED METAL. If you have a pre 90’s Ford you may add 1/4 in. gusset behind front crush box triangle with no more than 6 in. sides.

CAGES: A cage of no bigger than 4 in. pipe or 4 in. box tubing can be used. No kickers are allowed . You can have 4 bars inside car Front bar of cage must be horizontal to windshield and connect from windshield pillar to pillar another one from door post to post behind seat and one bar on each side to connect front to back bars . The cage may have an overhead bar that sticks over the roof for roll over safety recommended but not mandatory The bar must be straight up and down, no pitch towards rear of car welded to the side bars and the sheet metal of the cars floor

BUMPERS: ,. Bumper can be welded to frame on 4 sides. Bumpers cannot be welded to the body. Bumpers may not be loaded but must appear to look like an automobile bumper Maximum bumper height is 21 in. to bottom of bumper ,On pre ran cars front bumper may not exceed 24 in. to bottom of bumper minimum height is 14 in. and it will be measured from the bottom of the frame in the rear to the ground. The bottom of the bumper must be 14 in. off the ground also.

BODY: All glass, plastic grills, lights, chrome molding, trailer hitches and body trim must be removed. Station wagons must be emptied to the floorboard. Headliners also must be removed. Cars must be swept clean. Two 10 in holes must be cut on each side of the carburetor. Fan blades cannot be exposed ever, this will result in disqualification. Hoods may be fastened in six spots with wire, chain or maximum 3/4 bolts, six spots to be sheet metal to sheet metal only. Hoods may be fastened in front of radiator. A 10 in. hole must be cut in trunk lid if we cannot see inside.. No tucking or wedging of trunk allowed. No loading rain channels. Trunks must be attached to rain channels on sides but may be tucked inside tail panel. Taillight panel must remain vertical. You are allowed one piece of all thread from trunk floor to trunk lid, sheet metal to sheet metal only. No skinning of bodies. Doors and trunks may be wired, chained, or welded 3 6in weld on each door and trunk or tailgate with the exception of the drivers door which can be welded solid with 1/8 by 3 in. or 1/2 in. rod one time only. No welding or bolting of body panels together. Any body creasing must be cut every 12 in. Wagon roofs may be tucked and wired in four spots only, quarters and tailgate must remain upright. Body mounts can be replaced by 3/4 thread rod in 2 spots in rear and radiator supports. No extra body mounts allowed.
6.
SAFETY ITEMS: Wire mesh ,rebar must be welded in windshield area if windshield is removed. no distributor protector . All thread 1 in max. May be run through core support next to radiator only. Gas tanks must be removed. A boat tank or fuel cell is recommended. All fuel tanks unless fuel cells, must be covered. Fuel line must be clamped to tank. Radiators must remain in stock location. You cannot run extra radiators or water supplies. Transmission coolers are allowed. Batteries must be moved to passenger floor area, you may use two batteries but the must be securely fastened and covered. Driver’s door must be painted white or outlined.
7.
SUSPENSION:. No changing of coil to leaf springs. Coil springs may be tack welded or wired to brackets. Suspension parts must remain stock for make and model of car. You may modify or weld tie rod ends in control arms.. On leaf spring cars no more than 7 leafs per side with factory stager, must have a working shackle and is a passenger car spring. A- arms may be welded down with max. one 2x2 plate and or bolted down with 1 half in. bolt. ’03 and up conversion front suspension you may weld ford cradle and install suspension using factory components nothing may be bolted through frame. 8.
ENGINES: Engines and transmissions may be interchanged. Headers can be pointed up. Motor mounts may be welded; you are allowed 2 max 3/8 chains from engine to frame only. One chain link welded only. No extra bracing allowed. Firewalls must be in all cars in original place can be cut for distributor clearance
9.
TIRES: Any DOT tire except for tractor or solid filled
10.
MISCELLANOUS: Hood may need to be open for inspection. If it is not stated in the rules don’t do it. Numbers must appear on the roof or both sides of car Anything left out of the rules will be left up to the officials’ decision. All decisions by officials are final. number panels on roof are strongly recommended.
