Jory Berg Wins the Big Check at the 9th Annual Wissota Midwest Mod Golden Hammer Classic

The Devils Lake Speedway Hosted the 9th Annual Walhalla Building Center Wissota Midwest Mod Golden Hammer Classic Saturday Night. Each Driver ran 2 heats. The 1st heat the lineup was set by their initial pill draw of the night; With the 2nd heat inverted. Cumulative Passing Points was how the feature lineup was set. Cylen Vargeson of Edinburg ND and Eric Haugland of Lawton ND had accumulated the most passing points through both heats which put them on the front row for the 40 lap feature. Cylen Vargeson took an early lead and led the 1st 9 laps of the feature. On lap 10 Jory Berg took the lead and didn't look back for the last 30 laps of the race. Luke Erlandson of Brainerd MN was hot on Jory Berg's tail for a portion of the race. At lap 19 Memphis Klassen of Winkler MB would get past Erlandson to take the 2nd place position. Malachi Klassen of Winkler MB would work his way up 16 positions to finish 4th. Klassen would be the Hard charger of the night. Cylen Vargason settled for a 5th place finish.

Scotty Messner of Bemidji MN and Seth Klostreich of Grand Forks ND would start on the front row for the Wissota Street Stocks. Seth Klostreich took the lead right off the get go for the 1st 9 laps when a mid race caution came out. After the restart Greg Jose was able to sneak past Klostreich and took himself on a Saturday night cruise to Victory Lane. Klostreich finished 2nd. 12 year old Rookie Driver Blaine Barnes would finish 3rd. Drew Peterson of Langdon ND finished 4th and Scotty Messner would round out the top 5.

The Western Renegade Non-Wing Sprints were back in action. Nick Shirek of Thompson ND and Jeremy Lizakowski of Veseleyville ND would share the Front row for the 20 lap feature. Nick Shirek would take the lead on lap one by lap 2 Colton Young of Devils Lake ND was in the 2nd place position trying to chase down Shirek. Lizakowski would fall back to 3rd. By lap 5 Young was able to get by Shirek to take the lead away from shirek. Sometime between lap 7 and 8 Lizakowski would get past Shirek to secure the 2nd place position; before setting his sights on young. Lap 17 a late caution came out. That is when Lizakowski made his move and was able to slip past young to take the lead and drive himself back into Victory Lane. Colton Young would have to settle for a 2nd place finish. Nick Shirek finished 3rd. Myles Tomlinson of Turtle Lake ND would move up 5 spots in the feature to finish 4th and Steve Nordrum of Devils Lake rounded out the top 5.

Not a whole lot of positives came out of the Hometrack Rules Purestocks Saturday night. 3 drivers were Disqualified for various reasons from not going to tech and unsportsmanlike conduct. Waylon Poitra of Belcourt ND would be awarded the win for the night. Devils Lake Speedway would like to go on the record and apologize to those in attendance for the foul language used in Victory Lane by Joe Armstrong in the matter that it was presented. We have a zero tolerance policy for such behavior and have handed down punishments on a track level. That type of behavior does not reflect the culture we are trying to grow and does not grow the sport of autoracing. If said actions continue we will be looking at more permanent repercussions.

The Devils Lake Speedway will be back in action Saturday August 2nd. This will be the last night for the Wissota Late Models of the season and will be the night of the Late Model Points Championship. Wissota Midwest Mods, Wissota Street Stocks and Hometrack Rules Purestocks are also on the schedule.
