Kevin turns right in the ASA truck series
For the first time in my life I was racing on a road course in a full sized car. (or truck) The course was narrow and consisted of turns that were gradual and very fast to ones that were technical and sharp. On the straightaway we reached around 130 miles per hour powered by our 375 Horse Power V8s.
Friday practice offered plenty of seat time for all drivers as they mixed ASA trucks, Chevrolets, Fords, BMWs, Ferraris, and much more into one group all at one time, but the real excitement came on race day as I started in 3rd place. In the opening laps I slipped back some spots but ran back up to 3rd when the yellow flag came out, after the green I made easy work of second place and took over the lead with only around 8 minutes to go. Unfortunately Jeff Catlyn- the #1 truck was gaining on me every lap. This was not unexpected because he was the fastest practice and qualify competitor by far being that this was his home track and the rest of us were still getting used to a road course. Eventually he caught me and tried to open the door, which resulted in lots of damage to the rear bumper and frame of my truck along with a spinout. After falling from first to almost last I was able to make up many spots and return to third place within the last 5 minutes of the 45-minute timed event. In the end I still wanted a win badly but had nothing to complain about considering it was a very exiting opportunity to race these trucks and to be working with a very successful team. I would like to thank Lee Keach and his ASA truck team along with my sponsor- Coolridesonline.com for making this all possible.
