Press Release from ASA
Santee, CA – April 26, 2011 – Taylor Miinch was all smiles after winning his second ASA Truck race in a very different setting than his win two weeks ago. Miinch #5 and his ATK Motorsports team traveled from California deep into the desert to Chandler, Arizona to conquer the Firebird International Raceway’s West Course on Saturday. The field was getting ‘schooled’ early with Jeff Catlin’s quick practice laps which he followed up with an impressive fast qualifier lap of 1:02.550 in his classy red Chevy Colorado. Many drivers were new to road course racing and followed Catlin’s line and learned from the master. Those drivers that were new to turning right were definitely quick learners as they looked like veterans by the end of the 45-minute event.
Second place, Cameron Jocelyn #11, is a teammate to Miinch and third went to Kevin Donahue #18 who lead near the end but had a late race incident with Catlin. Rookie Darren Amidon #33 finished fourth.
Most of the race you couldn’t keep track of third through sixth as Donahue, Amidon, Jocelyn and Herda swapped those positions too many times to count which made the race great to watch. Jeff Catlin #1 rounded out the top five after dominating a great portion of the race, racing nose to tail with Miinch and was disappointed he didn’t get the chance to back up his win from the last road course. The 2010 Rookie-of-the-Year, Mike Herda, returned to the ASA Truck Series and finished sixth after some mechanical issues forced him to fall back in the field after qualifying second to Catlin.
